I have just brought back to work a irish Draft X thoroughbred mare. She is responding really well. She had a foal last year.
Shes really clever. When mounting, I give her a polo, and she waits for and expects it everytime I get on nhow!! As when she was in season last year, she threw me, everytime I tried to ride her. Out of season, shes perfect, my dream horse. She is so trainable. I think she should go elementary and beyond in dressage.
Anyone else doing dressage with this breed. Shes a lot more trainable than my Dutch warmblood. SHe accepts contact brilliantly, and you tell her once, and she does not forget. But she does try and rush whens shes trotting, but probably just not yet balanced.
My only worry, is I might have to keep her on Reguamte through the summer, Anyone else had to do this??? Im not sure yet, how that will work. But shes very difficult before her seasons and when shes in season. Also she has pretty horrible tb feet, which crack easily. At the mom, shes unshod and seems to be ,managing in the sand school, wouldnt hack her out though. I have keratexed them, and they have improved a lot.
Shes by CLassic, (thoroughbred Stallion), anyone else got a horse by this stallion, out of a calvary horse mare, who was i.d x thoroughbred, so shes 3/4 thoroughbred, 1/4 irish draft.
Interested to hear anyone elses experience with this type? (sorry, hope havent bore you with long post,, just a bit excited about her!!)
