Anyone got a Snuggy Hoods Turnout Hood?

I have the head TO cover. I use it the night before hunting to keep Hattie clean.
It does the job well but the eye holes come very close to her eyes so I wouldn't want to use it all the time.

Plenty of people use them without issue, but a significant minority have had horses end up with catastrophic injuries as a result of using them.

Not something I'm happy using.

Yes, mare wears hers every day and think they are great

Are the ears detachable?

Catastrophic injuries like how (excuse awful grammar please!)?

If the hood slips over the eyes, the horse can panic - panicked horses can bolt and will do all manner of things whilst bolting.

Bossanova's sister nearly lost a horse in this way - hood covered the eye, and in the ensuing panic he bolted through barbed wire and hedges and was found with his legs in a dreadful state. Her telling me the story has always stayed with me

As I said, lots of people use them without issue but I personally couldn't now.

I've been using mine for 3 winters & it's never moved. The only thing is that after rolling his ears sometimes come out of the ear holes & get flattened underneath, so he looks like a wonkey donkey. Usually a quick shake will fix this.

I've just bought a second one for when one's in the wash. Both have zips & ears. Saves hours of washing & brushing mud off. Can't say its his favourite attire though.

I have got a snuggyhood, after waiting over 3 weeks for it, it made her eyes water when we used it as it was a bit low. They agreed to alter it for another £17 so duly sent it back and waited ANOTHER 3 weeks to get it back again. I was really not happy especially as they kept telling me it was next to be done and would be with me by suchandsuch a day but it never was.
I think the hood is good quality if it fits but I think the company has outgrown themself and by their own admission cannot keep up with demand. So don't buy unless you are happy to wait a while!

ETA they didn't tell me at purchase point or when I sent it back that they have a delay, I notice they have that on the link now!

Oh how terrible! But surely they have a strap round the belly to stop that? It seems stupid if they don't...

Yes they have a strap around the belly. Mine has never moved.

The ears are not removable, my mare gets her ears filthy and they will put ears in as an after service for you.

It's one of those things you need to sort out in the summer and I forgot!

It has been a godsend though tbh

ETS if the hood fits properly it would not slip under normal conditions. Obviously if it gets caught on something and is pulled crooked you can't account for that.

Star has never had the hood come anywhere near her eyes, she has a good roll though because she has come in with muddy panda eyes lol!

i have the turnout heads, like the balaclavas as opposed to the full hoods.i found the full hoods rubbed the manes really badly.

the balaclavas are great-mine are fully clipped and this def keeps their little bald ears warm and stop that horrible cat hair beard growth!!! i wash mine with nikwax to fully waterproof them.

fit is perfect and iv never had one cause an accident.

there's a big difference between the proper snuggy hoods and cheaper imitations. i used a cheaper one once and it ended up round his neck nearly strangling him. my proper snuggy hood has never moved.
