Ive just bought a lovely compact horsebox, its the older stick sided type body and it does need some tidying up in places as in bits of rust on the stick bit frame. We are going to get some quotes but just wondered if anyone has sorted this themselves and how did you go about it please?

Hammerite comes in lots of colours, but if you are only going to paint the spars anyway, it wouldn't take long to do them all, and contrast colour spars are really nice :)

Only speaking from my classic car restoration experience here, but rust can be painted over with special paints and it does buy you some time and give you a cheaper "fix" but rust is a cancer. It has to be cut out. Unless it is surface rust, in that case you can grind/wire wheel/what have you down to good clean metal again, prime, then paint.

If the rust is going to comprise the integrity of the structure, is flakey, or there are holes, you will have to cut out and weld in new metal.

Totally depends on the severity of the rust.

Thank you, this is what we were hoping to do or get a quote for it to be done. Its not horrendous but is on a few of the struts at the bottom and also under the luton on the struts so Id like to get it sorted asap to help prevent it getting any worse. My hubby who isnt DIY minded lol has said he will grind it but I think its a bigger job than he thinks, hence asking if anyone had done it themselves.
