I'm looking for a cheap runaround, just short local journeys carrying one horse and have seen a local VW LT35 advertised.

The engine is a 2 litre petrol engine which to me seems a bit low .... does anyone have a box with this size engine and if so how does it cope with going up hill?

I used to have one, but it was a 2.5 diesel and it chugged up hills with one 16 hander in it!! What year is this one your looking at? Ours was 86, so it was quite old. Brilliant engines though, ours was ultra reliable. Only thing I didn't like was the gearbox, it was not easy at all and the gears seemed to change place every minute! LOL. Also it tended to sway quite a lot but no more than the transit conversions.

I preferred it to the transits as its much more substantial. Can't recommend the engines enough, ours never let us down in 4 years

I had a 2.5 diesel one, it too was pretty slow on hills, but the engine never let me down, it was very easy to drive.

I had a 2L petrol LT35 which just about managed to take one 16hh horse at a time. It did struggle up hills, and we had problems with the fuel injectors as apparently (not that I'd know!) they were not designed for hauling about such large loads and they struggled to get enough fuel to the engine with a big horse on board. Saying that, I loved the lorry and would have a diesel LT35 anytime - if you can afford the extra it would cost to get a diesel instead I would walk away from the petrol engine... Although if you were only going to carry one small pony I guess you'd be Ok with a petrol!? Hope that helps.

Thank you, thats was my initial concern about the petrol engine and seeing as I will be carrying a 16.2hh I might be better looking around for the 2.5 diesel model.
Thank you.
