Anyone got any experience of GC Horseboxes in Leicestershire? And 3.5t best bits?

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of any of their builds (NB not GC Smiths)?

Thinking of getting a 3.5t from them as seems to be good value for money and could specify exactly what I want, but would be interested to see what people think of them and the quality of their builds.

Also what would you change / keep about your 3.5t? If I do go down the new build route I want to make sure I get the best possible layout/features.

I am about to have a 3.9t built by Equi Star to my spec - im having all the horse area fully padded, so the partition and walls at the side and behind. Im having barn doors as i prefer them for loading as ive got large horses and i think the up and over door makes the space look smaller for the horses to go in to. Im also having a 5foot breastbar (solid to the floor and full height), antiweave grills, stallion partitions (so solid to the floor), padded sniffer board, separate living area with a bench seat, wardrobe and some cupboards, storage area above the luton (with a mesh draw down as it saves on weight), an outside tack locker for 2 large dressage saddles and bridles, cctv to horse area and reversing camera and i think thats about it! Oh, and then little things such as teardrop tinted windows but they are just cosmetic.

Im having a 3.9t built so that i can carry 2 large horses in mine if needs be, but am scrimping on the living area to also save on weight. I currently have a 7.5t with full spec living which im going to miss but needs must!

How many horses are you planning on carrying and what size are they? If its 1 (approx 16hand size) then thats fine with a 3.5t but two of that size and you are pushing it.

As Tempi says weight is main issue with the 3.5 tonners. I have a super snazzy little wagon with a seperate day living including seating and hob etc; however it is one horse only weight wise. I did not do my research properly and have been really dissapointed that I cannot carry 2. I don't think there are actually many on the market that would carry 2 good size horses. If you can get the weight right they are great so other than that I would say go for it.
 
I know it's old, but I thought I might answer the question. I was just searching for GC Horseboxes on google and found this thread.
A friend of mine recommended them to me as she bought a horsebox from them last year. She's really pleased with it so far especially for the money, so I'm definitely considering getting one from them.
 
I have an old 3.5t and I love it because there's so much space, for the horse and also for me to get changed and to put all my stuff (up high in the luton so I don't have to trip over it!!). I borrowed a couple of much smarter 3.5t boxes recently and I was amazed at how little space there was even for one horse. My boy really struggled... Also, even though it is proven that horses travel better backward facing, mine who usually travels like a dream in a forward facing lorry was kicking all the way in a backward facing one... A few things to think about anyway xxx
 
Just in case anyone else looks at this for info, I did get my box built by GC horseboxes (coachbuilt) and am really happy with it. It has steel reinforcement and an emergency back exit, plus lots of nice bits (tack locker etc) and was very reasonably priced. His facebook page is much more up to date the his website so best to look there. I have to say a 3.5 is so much easier than my old 7.5 and my horse seems happy too.
