Anyone got any horsey stories? :)

I recently lost my old boy, so I've been out of sorts lately. I also have confidence problems sometimes when riding my tb.
The last week though, it seems like things are clicking for us.
We've been on a couple of trail rides by ourselves, he's suddenly doing some nice work in the school & I think we're both feeling more settled.
My RI is back after a 6 wk trip & I can't wait for a lesson to move on ( & show off how well we're doing)
It's not competing, but a big thing for me.
Kx

Not yet but should have tomorrow, as I finally have my horse back after 5 years :D

No, she hasn't been on loan or even left my stables for more than a few weeks, just a series of events meaning she hasn't been ridden properly for 5 years!

Hopefully getting on tomorrow for a wee pootle. Have got her fancy new bridles, checked her saddle fit, got a nice new girth and super cool reins and got her a prolite pad :D

Can you guess am a bit excited?! :D

I had an amazing lesson yesterday on a beautiful horse with a fab instructor. Havn't been for a while because I managed to tear the muscle in my thigh. We did lots of work in canter, including working on my aids, we did walk four strides then left leg lead four strides, walk for strides then right leg lead and so on. Really got me concentrating and helped me massively today schooling my friends mare who is not yet established in her canter.
Also very funny tonight whilst schooling friends horse, every time we came round one corner in the school she really hotted up, ears right forward, head up rushing. At first I thought she was spooking at something till I realised what it was. We had recently painted some poles and so they didn't get too dirty put them on some wings in one corner of the school. Coming round that corner she was 'locking' on to the fence even though it stood about four foot high (I'm too chicken to attempt anything more than a cross pole nowadays) and was against the side of the school so completely unjumpable anyway!
Last snippet that had us in stitches happened a few weeks ago. My friend normally takes all tack home because the tack/feed room is less than ideal except one day decided to leave exercise bandages at the yard as I would be there first the following day and would be able to bandage Mega Mare before friend arrived. We put them somewhere safe from any nibbling mice, I got there the following day and started to bandage as planned. Mega Mare was very interested in what I was doing, normally she just stands quietly whilst I bandage but this time she was sniffing and nibbling the bandages making it near on impossible to get them on. Finally managed it, popped her back in stable whilst I waited for her mum to arrive and watched over the door... still obsessed with the bandages, sniffing all down her legs then reversing round her stable whilst sniffing them....I was getting a bit concerned till it clicked...the 'safe' place the bandages had been put the day before was in a feed bin full of Baileys topline nuts, her most favourite food in the world, poor horse she could smell them on her legs but couldn't find any anywhere!

Laura6544, poor little sniffer horse, thinking her legs had turned into topline nuts :D !

Also my horse used to be awful when we had lessons in the school, truely dreadful, but occasionally she was an angel, took me a while to work out that when there was a jump in the school, even if we didn't jump, it she behaved like an saint!!

In the end used to stick a cross pole up just to get her to behave :D

Love everyone stories :) i don't ride Blue or Pogo but i have some young girls who have started to ride him so looking forward to going to the beach with them, the ponies seem to really enjoy being out and about more (i do try to wlk them out whenever i can :))

My old mare gets the occasional amble round nowadays and its very much on her terms. She has always hated schooling and in her opinion anything that isn't hacking or jumping is schooling. As she is 23 I get a little worried at times when she looks a little down but we have a trick now to see if she really is ready for full retirement or pulling the wool over our eyes, we get a trotting pole out. I say trotting pole, last time it appeared we went sideways, jumped it and then bucked... canny old moose! I've had her since she was five and have only dared 3 trotting poles on a few occasions, basically this is, in Woody's eyes, a rather inviting spread fence and not for putting your feet between in trot, ridiculous! I sometimes wish I could put a little fence up for her but she's so precious I wouldn't risk it at her age and fitness level.
