I'm thinking of letting my boy grow his mane long. He's a TB and I have always pulled his mane short. I let my girl grow hers when she retired, but she looked a mess and so I now keep it short. But my boy is looking kind of nice! He is more thn ready for a good trim, but am now wondering...

So, has anyone got any pics of TBs with flowing manes?

Not the most flattering photo, but my sadly missed TB had a lovely long mane... no forelock though. :p

Sorry not the best pictures! I prefer TBs with pulled neat manes but I can see why you'd want to keep your boys longer, it sounds lovely. Do you have a pic?

They do look like different horses with long manes, softer and more natural. I like it. I don't have a tb but just wanted to say tht the horse looks nice.

Thank you. They are lovely. I have been trying to find a pic. May have to take some tomorrow as I can't find one showing his mane in much detail.

My lad (the bright bay ;-)) and his "wife". She's a full TB, he's TBx. She's the reason he looks rather "well" - whenever she's the right weight, he's over, and when he's the right weight, she's too skinny.

Wow, she was stunning! My favourite colour too. (Sorry if it's a he! Just looks so pretty.)

Thanks. She was lovely and her mane was so thick that it fell both sides of her neck. I would tidy it up a bit every nown and again.

Photo showing the other side.

Eeek! I couldn't do a long mabed tb!!!

She was retired and lived out, so neat and tidy wasn't required. ;) :)

Lovely pair of horses. His mane looks really nice long.

I know its personal opinion, and of no importance to the wellbeing of the horse, but I do think thoroughbreds with manes left to grow long look absolutely dreadful, no exceptions, sorry!!!

Dont have a pic but my mare has an un pulled mane atm. Its awful and patchy, I think she looks smarter with it pulled but longer manes do suite some TBs

One of the TBs looks fab with a short mane. He's 'double mained' (full main on each side.)

Where as Foxy has quite a wispy mane that is only on one side (with the odd bit floating over in the wind. I personally love running plaits tight up to the neck. So my girl has quite a long mane for that :) And no - she doesn't look 'awful'. Bit of a harsh word to use about a horse :o

Sorry no picture at the moment, i will try and remember to take one at the weekend. But my TB who lives out 24/7 naked or with a light weight has a super long mane. It is very even and not too thick, but not patchy. I've previously always keep my TBs rugged, clipped, super short manes but we've now gone feral and to be honest i think he looks great. He also does not wear shoes ;)

His mane looks great long, flowing locks.....

Even pre. Just don't like long manes. My retired mare has hers neatly pulled and thinned just like my tb. Cob is hogged. Personal preference but so much smarter imo.

I really don't like hogged manes, I think they're nasty. But I wouldn't go on a thread of people showing off their hogged manes to announce that!?

Deans with his messy mane. I did actually pull it after taking the picture but we ain't going anywhere fancy so I'm not really fussed either way.
Love that pic of the racehorse

this.. each to their own, we're all quite happy with our horses manes, and i wouldnt go out my way to say how much i disliked someone elses preference..

foxs manes a mess just now cos he started fidgeting when i was trying to neaten it :o this is his mane at its longest (a few years back now!), i like it when it sits right, but too often it fall over to both sides!

I like short manes on my horses (just personal pref) but I do think it depends on the horse, none of the horses in previous posts look wrong or odd with long manes. I love a hogged cob type and I love Andalusians with huge manes, maybe I'm just easy lol! I'll try n find a pic of mums tb with her long-ish mane

Slummy with his fairly short mane (in summer, he's now in his winter woollies)
