Hi

I am in the middle of getting new stables built and was looking at getting plastic internal partitions. Was wondering if anyone has got them or had experience with them?? I asked suppliers about attaching fittings like hay racks saddle racks etc but they just say they should be able to support them and when I've asked about drilling into the plastic to attach such accessories they havnt been able to give me much of an answer. Any advice good and bad would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks

The only experience i have with them is for temporary stabling. I have never heard of them being used for permanent stables. I wouldn't use them, and to be honest it sounds like they are avoiding answering your queries.

I have never seen them, but perhaps you could ask if they have any installed locally that you could visit with the owner's permission? I'd like to see them in use before buying.

Do you mean the recycled plastic infill tongue and groove planks that fit in the galvanised frames? If so, they're absolutely fantastic. We have them and they're actually much stronger than wooden infills. You can drill into it no problem. They've aged well too and don't look 'tatty' as wood can sometimes go.

Apologies if this isn't what you meant.

As above I have Loddon stables with the recycled plastic infill tongue and groove planks. They are very thick and sturdy and i am sure you could drill into them although I haven't. They are brilliant as they are no maintenance and much stronger than wooden pannels.

Hi yeah it's the recycled infills I'm talking about :-) Fiona36 have you attached any saddle racks or anything like that to them? They sound fantastic but there is no one local to us that has had them installed so trying to find out everything I can about them x

I have the galvanised partitions with railings above and plastic infills on bottom section. I haven't attached anything to them as I have stone walls on the other sides so have attached tie rings and haynet rings to that but I'm sure they'd be fine. They're really strong. Apparently they stand up to kicks etc much better than wooden infills do so I'd imagine that if wooden infills are OK to attach things to, they'd certainly be fine. Ours seem really sturdy- the doors are quite heavy and robust- I suppose that's down to the galvanised framework which I'm sure adds strength.

I love mine. I'm so glad I went for the plastic instead of the wooden infills. They still look great and there's no maintenance!

Maybe you could ask the manufacturer to send you a sample of one of the planks so you can get an idea of how they feel etc and set your mind at rest. (?)

Just realised I didn't mention the drilling. We drilled ours to add extra deep chew strips to the doors. They drilled ust like wood.

You generally wouldn't attach tie rings or anything like that to wooden tongue and groove / shiplap, it is not strong enough. You attach stuff to the framework because it is too easy for a single board to be pulled off.

Can't comment on the plastic stuff but I'd be interested to see it myself :D
