Anyone got experience with Beagles as pets?

I have been thinking about getting a dog for a while now.
Cant decide betweeen a Jack Russel or a Beagle, or maby someone could recomend a differnet breed altogether. Has to be short haired, so no fluffys please! Will live in outdoor kenels with Collie for company. I want to get the dog as a puppy, so it could grow up used to chickens, horses, sheep ect on the farm. Its really just a pet for me, will be walked everyday, often twice and hopefully come out on the ground while i am on the horse. I dont intend to do any showing or breeding. Any suggestions, advice, experience welcome as i have have kept dogs all my life but only really spaniels and now the collie. Thanks for reading.

We had beagles when I was a child they were fantastic dogs and incedilbly loyal .

If you're not intending to do any showing or breeding, you could have a look for a mongrel puppy in rescue centres or something. We have a Jack Russel and she is a little horror - terrier through and through! She's very very cute though, as long as you don't mind the total lack of obedience!
