I recently bought a 15hh tb x welsh 4 yr old unbroken gelding. He's coming on in leaps and bounds and i can now ride him lightly in walk. He is very narrow in front and looks a bit like 2 horses stuck together! Is he likely to keep growing and filling out or is this it?! Does anyone have any pictures of their 4 yr olds? What should I be doing with him? Thanks for reading this.

He will fill out sooo much between now and six or seven don't worry! I'll rummage for a photo for you :)

Have you got a piccie for us to see? I'm incurably nosey!

Yeah he will continue to fill out, he'll be far from his end shape at 4, may even grow an inch or so.

I bougt a mare a few years ago that was a TB x cob, she was the strangest horse to look at, from the rear she looked like a cart horse, from the front, a typical TB.
We used to call her hips her bat wings lol, now she on the ribs front didn't appear underweight, you could nicely feel her ribs but couldn't see them, but I thought her previous owners opinion that thats just the way she is was wrong, I thought she was underweight and no way her hips could be so big and out of proportion.
Well I let her gain the weight, I'd say she gained a 100kg and she started to look like a nice horse and in proportion and I could still feel her ribs exactly the same after the weight gain.

In your case your horse is just young, but I should imagine when they do fill out that the front end will catch up with the big rear end x

Sounds like my mare!!! He's got plenty of time to fill out, after all horses don't stop growing till their about 7 (i think), so don't panick,.

This is my mare lilly, she is a 4y old tb, she is just starting to fill out.

He will grow lots! Just make sure he has lots of good quality feed and he'll do the rest himself.

Lots of variety with babies - particularly if they are weak - hacking (variety of terrains), polework, baby sj and xc fences (can pop ditches and water without jumping huge!!) - take him to RC/PC lessons to get him out and about - a few baby dressage comps - the world's your lobster!

If he is weak - avoid too much work in deep or hard going and perhaps not too much lungeing (although bits and bobs, particularly with a chambon will not do any harm!).

I love youngsters - so much fun!! Enjoy

Here he is this January just starting work and rising five ( so older than your chap already) not a great piccy but can't find one of him stood up sadly.

And this is he now. Only nine months ish later. I think he looks like a different horse. He is just starting to put on muscle over his bum so he is finally evening out!

Here is my 4yo. I've only had him a couple of weeks, this was when i first got him and i think he has started to change already! I know what you mean about looking like two horses stuck together, elmo is the same - doesn't look like a proper horsey yet!! I won't be expecting him to stop growing/changing shape til he is around 6yrs old.
