Anyone got horses at more than one location?

... and if so, how do you cope? I lease a lovely field and stables but it's on a very busy road. I want to keep leasing it, and to keep my traditional yearling there with a tenant Welshie mare who will keep him in check - it's a lovely space and very reasonably priced, but I am considering moving my riding TB three miles down the road to a livery yard with a school and off-road hacking. I would have to pass my lease place every time I go to the livery yard so it's not out of my way at all. I realise that it's going to be extra time but does anyone else do this kind of thing and if so, are you successful at managing your time? (I only work part-time too)
 
Yes both my horses are in separate locations - Gelding is at livery yard 14 miles away - Mare is at home in my own paddock, I work full time (7 days a week during December) and have a small baby in tow - Im just very organised :)
 
I used to have, well I had mine at our current yard, and OH (then very new) had his about 4 miles away. I used to do mine first as they were nearer home, then I would go and see to his and then on to work. It meant I had to get up earlier, he works very early am shifts so it was too early for him to do them, but it worked ok because I planned everything out managed my time whilst I was there. The only thing that was a problem was if there was something wrong when I got to either of the yards. It is do able and if you pass your field on the way to the yard then that sounds ideal.
 
I used to as one of mine needed to be turned out more and the other horse needed to be in more to be worked.

It drove me totally mental in the end and when I finally got them back together I wondered how I ever managed it - def wouldnt do it again!
 
For the next six weeks at least I have. My mare who has been on box rest for about five weeks started her in hand walking yesterday (don't you just love it when the vets say to keep it on box rest, but give it 10 minutes in hand walking each day after it's been in a stable for the last 5 weeks?!?!?). Anyhow, the walking was highly unsuccessful with rearing and general farting about, which resulted in my legs going like jelly and shaking.....stuff that - I phoned some friends who have a rehab yard with a huge horsewalker about 40 miles away and took her there today. She went onto the walker as quiet as a lamb....never put a hoof wrong. So she can stay there until she is ready to be turned out in a field again where she can buck and fart herself calm again!

Its do-able, but not ideal and extremely frustrating when that item you want is at the other yard!

I did it for 8 months as I'd bought a second horse and there was no room for him at the first horses yard, but there was only one space at the second horses yard, so I had to wait to get them together.
 
Yes! well untill this week, my riden horse was at a DIY livery n my 2 x babies at my field, this summer stables went up finaly! un till then i just had a field shelter. riden horse had only been home for bout 6 weeks one summer in about the past 5 years. when he left i had him n my old mare n 8 sheep, he came home this week to my 2 x babies both 3yo and no old mare i lost her 2 years ago, he is obviously looking for her!!

its difficult, trying to be in 2 places at the same time, the last straw for me was this last lot of snow and ice, i had to park n walk to both sets of horses park on main rds n walk down the little lanes the 1st 2 was fine but by the time i drove up the rd n have to do it again, just not enough time b4 and after work, a friend used to feed my boy am but then i had to get her 2 in at night pluss do my 3, you also end up with so much stuff coz you need to have it at both sights, car was a constant mess n organising the black smith was silly! even thouh they were only a small distance apart, riding was better at livery i do have a trailer so just going to box it now, and i need my good old boy home to teach the babies how to ride out this summer, i will miss my friends but they are only up the rd x im looking forward to starting back to work this week and not having to run arround all over the county side x will save petrol to pluss lvery x
 
I do. We currently have two on Part Livery at a Livery Yard and two ponies at home. It isn't too bad as obviously I don't have to travel anywhere to do the two at home but before we got a house with land, they used to be kept at a different Livery yard on Grass Livery. Used to end up doing a lot of driving and it was hard sometimes but as long as you are organised and plan your day you can manage.
 
I have my two mares at one yard and my gelding at another. The gelding is meant to live out 24/7 hence why he is at different yard but due to injury has been in since I got him. I thought it would be a nightmare but it's actually fine and I love having the two different yards I get the best of both worlds. Once he goes out in the Spring it will be even easier. As long as they are not too far apart it shouldn't be a problem once you get into the routine.
 
My mum does it.... Although she doesn't work anymore.
Her horse and my Shetland are at home, stabled at night all year round. Her other horse is 7 miles away in full livery - although she goes everyday even if he's not ridden (likes to give him a love and a brush if not ridden)
The one in livery used to be at home, but my mum found it a lot of work trying to ride a new horse, look after him, whilst doing other stuff too. He also wouldn't turn out all day, and would gallop about (typical warmblood from the continent)
He actually prefers it in Livery as they turn him out twice a day, plus my mum has help on the ground and an indoor school
 
I did for several years, three old retired at one small yard with lovely quiet, sheltered paddocks & other two at neighbouring main yard with school & jumps. Worked really well although yards were only a mile apart and also close to my home.
 
2 are at livery yard 3 miles away. They are my main competition horses. The livery has 1 indoor arena and 1 outdoor arena, so I can always ride.
My Fjord stallion stands at my neighbours house (they have 5 stables and quite a bit of land), cause the livery doesn't accept stallions. They've only got an outdoor arena, but I'm fine with that, he's only young and doesn't need riding everyday.

I manage this pretty well. Don't always have the time to ride/take care of the stallion, luckily my neighbour always cleans out for me!
