Anyone got horses staying out yet??

I have, she went out last Friday and hasn't been in since. Her field is only 1 mile away from home but the kids are on half term and with OH at work it seemed easier to leave her out.

Not sure what her rug is I would guess somewhere between light and medium weight. It's fairly old.

She is much happy than when she was stabled, so am I - no mucking out. :D

Mine have been out all winter ( they're not in work, wintering polo ponies), all wearing Rambo Wugs, heavyweight when its very cold and now back to medium weight Wugs. They are cosy and snug :)

My TB lives out 24/7 year round. He is rugged according to conditions & has ad lib haylage, our grass is coming through nicely now too :)

Chucked mine out tonight!

Haven't got a huge amount of grass but at least it is dry, so have split the field in half and will feed hayalge until the grass comes through on the rested side.

Looking forward not to mucking out in the morning!!!

Iv got 6 out thank god and what a saving, no 5am starts and no mucking out only skipping out. 3 bare and muddy and 3 with med weights. I pray the rain stays away

This will be the third night out for my two, though hadn't expected frost last night.

Both are in early twenties. Unclipped TB is in a lightweight and trace clipped pony is in a heavyweight to ward off the frost. During the day, TB is naked and pony is in either a lightweight or medium.

Have never turned out this early, but field is quite dry for this time of year and I'm still feeding hay in the field.

Been out most of the winter have just re-joined the herd my boy and the other cob were from. (We were destroying the main field!)

He has his lightweight on- to keep the mud monster clean!
Has been in a mediumweight in the -5+

:D:D

He is a happy wee boy!

Mine did Fri & Sat night out last weekend & have been out again since Weds this week.

As far as I am concerned, they can now stay out unless the weather really does get very wet & cold. Bedding is now up, but only banked up in case it needs to come down again. Won't be cleared out completely till end April.

Biggest in a MW tonight, as tho its been lovely & sunny today, its currently down to 3 degrees now.

mines been out all winter medium weight rug went to lightweight last couple of nights, he removed lightweight two nights ago and hes naked now. i feel like a bad mum!!!

Would love to get mine out but don't think I've got quite enough grass just yet...

Same here... It's still looking a bit sparse and churned up with a few boggy areas still...

I'm hoping we get a bit of sunshine to start drying it up and bringing some grass through - I was hoping to have them out the end of this month although all 14 on the yard are likely to get booted out at the same time so a bit of decent grass would be good... :)

Been out all winter, in all weathers, with no rug.

Brought him in only twice a week recently to give some horsehage high fibre overnight.

3 were out last night on our yard, 2 with trace clips and med weight rugs with necks, other one who is a cob was naked. There are however 7 others (including my 2) that are still being bought in. These will get turned out 24/7 at some point in the not too distant future aswell.

We just need a teeny bit more grass for ours yet. But hoping to get them our by the end of March for definite. Maybe earlier as my baby is due to pop out mid-March and will save a whole load of work for them to be out!

Mine are out most nights - they come in for the night now and again if it's chucking it down or really really cold.
My clipped TB is naked during the day atm and has a medium on at night - same with norty Arab.
If they stay out overnight they get hay to chew on.
We do have a reasonable amount of grass though.
Both are fed 2 hard feeds a day.

At the moment it is so warm during the day that it has been lovely for them to be rug free. Perfect weather to turn themselves into mud monsters.:D
It's nice for them to have the sun on their backs and to have a good scratch.
However - we had a hard frost last night - so glad I put their medium weights on overnight.
