I do it sometimes if he's having a fat day, or obviously when we hack to a show, but usually I use the GP---easier to take a light seat for fast canters etc.
Interesting question! I have a lovely new dressage saddle, I love it, but so far have only schooled in it. Instructor has told me to ride out in it but I am too windy, horse is v forward and can be strong, I have been run away with before in my gp because I had long stirrups (went out for quick hack after schooling) and I'm scared I wouldn't stop him in it should he decide the pace should be upped!!!
Skewby - you can get your legs wrapped round in a dressage saddle
: I sat all of Dizzy's shenanigans using one
The only time there was an issue was the day I came off, knee rolls might have made a difference! But my dressage saddle doesn't have any knee rolls at all lol.
Yep! Much prefer my dressage saddle. Corrie changed shape a while ago and my mum was riding her for me and didn't like the dressage saddle so we went for a (changeable gullet) G.P. Never got around to selling the dressage saddle and now shes filled out again it fits again. She's currently on box rest having done a check ligament but when (if!) she comes back into work it will be the dressage saddle i ride her in. Feel SOOOO much more secure in it. Have happily used it for fast work to.
Yep, just depends what I have down at the yard (well... when I get it back again ) dont tend to do much fast work because there isn't anywhere to do so, but I do jump in it.
Yes often do on my friend's eventer, who is too big for me really. I find I don't get dislodged as easily when she spooks. Same friend is always telling me the story of how she once teamchased in a dressage saddle, as she had her jumping one stolen the day before- rather her than me
I have even hopped over the odd logs and ditches in the dressage sadlle- but think i'll stick to that
Don't have the option with the TB- i only have an Albion jump saddle for him, so have to do everything in it- including dressage
I only have 1 saddle and hacking and a little schooling is all I do, so yes, I ride out in mine all the time. When I bought a new saddle last spring I did try a GP and a VSD but found I naturally wanted to sit deeper and longer than it was comfy to do so in them both so bought an Isabel, luckily it was also the best fit on him. It is super comfy and does make me feel more secure on the odd occasion he has a little spook.
