Kevin babbington offered to buy my pony years ago (for clients). He had come to view another horse belonging to yard owner that i was riding ( a 5yo) who was the spitting image of Carling King - in looks/movemnet/jumping ability. He arrived early when I was showing my pony to prospective clients. However he was pipped to the post for mine, but did have quite a few conversations with him about her and hes a lovely guy. As for the other horse, after getting his verdict about how super the 5yo was they took the ride back from me and decided not to sell him. He was 3rd in his first GP but colicked after the class and died 2 days after surgery.
The best racehorse trainer in Europe also viewed the same pony for his son but unfortunately at the time the kid couldnt ride one side of it (he was very young though!) Couldnt say the same about him now after the recent pony Euro Eventing Champs!
Also bought my first pony from an irish racehorse trainer. Had a top NZ eventer buy my 3yo coloured Touchdown gelding for clients 5 years ago. Had a well-known UK NH trainer purchase a 4yo TB mare from me 2 years ago. Swiss international pony-riders (the eldest is now on the NC circuit) bought my 2yo Irish Sport pony from me 2 yrs ago also.
Only ever had dealings from well-known/famous horse people - but at least they are famous for their talent. TBH I dont get startstruck by them though, dont see the point. Just proud that they can see something in the horses Ive chosen - gives me some self belief in my ability to know a good horse when I see one!
