George was freezemarked at the beginning of Aug, but unfortunately his mark hasn't formed properly and one of the letters and numbers aren't at all clear. I have spoken to Farmkey and they can't get anyone out until 15th Dec to re-do it!! I'm not at all happy about this, as I will then need to wait another 12 weeks before the mark is properly formed and during all this time George won't really be protected against theft

Has anyone else had to have their freezemark redone, do they just redo the numbers you can't see, and do you still keep the same number?

The 8 on my Pony looked like a 9. I mentioned it to Farmkey at one of their stalls at an equine event (years after!)

They came out and filled in the gap free of charge.

SAME HERE im livid, not coming out til 14th December to re-do mine. I waited 5 weeks for the original appointment in the first place. It is totally unacceptable. Only 2 letters are barely showing, all that stress for little reward.

Yes I had to have one of mine re-done but that was because he was a nightmare to do........the most quietist, gentlist horse in the world but he hated having it done, (he was grey) so I ended up having him sedated and Farmkey came back out and redid it.

do they charge to come back out? mine will be sedated next time too. altho the sedation doesnt seem to have a lot of effect on him. i just know the freezemarking experience has now ruined my chances of getting the clippers near him ever again.

the remark is free but I just can't believe how long I've got to wait, like you wonderhorse I waited over 5 weeks for the original appointment. Of course it will also mean another week when I can't ride - argghh.

have had 2 redone over the years, farmkey and freezemark. the last time was freezemark had two horses done, one was a nightmare and had to be twitched, the other stood like a lamb, was the good horse that had to be done again ( thankgod) the white wasnt very clear, both companies were prompt in coming back out.

Freezemark did my daughters piebald cob earlier this year and I would thoroughly recomend them. At the time we were desparate to have him done asap because he's a coloured but were told by Farmkey that there would be a three month wait as there rep for our area was sick. We had Freezemark out within the week and the brand took really well. He's just been clipped and the mark is really sharp and clear (white on black) it's also only one letter and two numbers.

My mare had to have the last letter redone, but of the 4 horses done at the time, she was the only one (think it was her tough cobby skin). I think they have to leave at least 16 weeks betwen marking and remarking (which might be part of the cause of the delay).

I agree 100%. I recommend Freezemark.biz over and over and over. I hear so many times about marks done by Farmkey needing re-doing, but very rarely with Freezemark. Also, Freezemark are the original marking company with a 100% recovery rate. Experience counts I think.

I have got farmkey coming back out to do one of mine on the 24th November, she was the only one out of 7 we had done. I only have the top half of my freezemark showing.

my cob has been done 3 times and you still can`t see it.

she was well behaved and 3rd time it was left on longer.

Mine's just been redone - think it was freezemark but I didn't organise it so not sure and don't have paperwork to hand. Was the 8 that failed on mine, was visible but only half. They just redo same numbers/letters that fail, she put a cloth over the bit that had taken so it didn't do that bit again. It is a pain having them fail. Between my mare's back, freezemarking and now stitched up leg I don't feel I've actually had a good few weeks of riding since I got her in May. But I'm doing loads of bonding so that's one way of looking at it (and she's well/happy)

Had to have my Shettie redone by Farmkey years ago. Basically because he was blue roan when they did him, then he turned grey. As he was being ridden regularly at the time I decided to have it redone on his shoulder. I have to keep that regularly clipped back as it doesn't show all that well, esp in summer. You can see the very faint mark on his back where the original mark was.

They can't redo it for 16 weeks as it can affect the skin to be marked again in a short space of time. They do tell you to wait 16 weeks before contacting them.

My horse was done on the 11th November 2006. She's a blue and white and was done on her shoulder. It should've been a bald mark but one of the numbers didn't work. It was redone just over a week ago. You have 12 months for them to redo it for free.

Yes, they do redo the same numbers as that mark is assigned to our horse. In the case of a bald mark, it's impossible to redo it if the mark was partially successful. They cannot put the iron onto areas of bald skin.

I know about the 16 weeks, but it will be 14 weeks this weekend, so I thought I'd let them know so we could get it done as the 16 weeks was up - obviously not. I see Sarah23 that they're coming to you on the 24th, wonder if they could come to me then, cambridge and essex aren't a million miles away??

I had one of mine freezemarked years and years ago. Dreadful! I have no idea what it says as chunks of letters / numbers are missing. The woman who did it made a total mess of it. Have never had it redone as it really stressed out the pony and not much point now anyway as he's 20 so not nick-able anymore!
