as per title really!!

may not be required but always like to know about the options.
Our beautiful Barry (dark bay in sig) has the worst vitreal floaters the prof had ever seen

and more or less complete liquefaction of the vitreous humour (might see it like that in a 35yr old - he is 9). Vitrectomy is one of the options mentioned.

Perversely, the diagnosis was good news. His behaviour had degenerated to such an extent that he was dangerous to ride and we were facing having him pts as a total basket case. No wonder - he would have shadows and huge 'floaters' seeming to be chasing him! If the eye can be sorted we may get our lovely boy back!

Interesting, presumably if the procedure is a success, he can have a normal life? Does he have the problem in both eyes? Could they remove the affected eye instead?

I hope it all goes well.

suggestion was that it would be pretty much normal. I think they would 'prefer' to do the vitrectomy rather than remove the eye because it preserves the vision but it seems a very uncommon op in horses. my worry is that if it doesn't go well we will be a bit short of insurance money to do anything else!
