Anyone have horses around Okehampton?

We have finally found a farm near Okehampton. yay!!
I was just wondering about the area.
Whats the riding like?
Is it a big horsey area?
Are there good horse shops?
Do they have nearby horse events (i know the grange and southcott xc)
Farriers?
Vets?
And anything else horse related.
Any help would be great!
Plus anyone that needs a new riding friend!
Or wants to come and help me exercise all mine!

I have holidayed in Okehampton and yes it is a very horsey area - there are also some yards that back right onto the moors so I don't believe you can get much better riding than that! Best of luck.

I used to live in that area. You have Mole Avon in Okehampton - good horse shop. Jodie Hooper (she lives in Okehampton) has a saddlery shop in Hatherleigh and is an excellent master saddler. Lots of horsey people - you could join a riding club. Can go riding on the moor, only down side is that it seems to rain a lot there!!

I live between okehampton and tavistock, very horsey area and the riding is fantastic! You also have cornwall farmers in Tavistock and mole avon in okehampton, I know a very good vet and farrier, PM me if you want more info.

I agree with the weather though, does rain a lot and is quite foggy but when it is nice it's absolutely beautiful!

I'm also near about 5 miles from Hatherleigh but the other way and lost horse end November he was also retired since we've been down here but looks good on Dartmoor.

I LIVE AT wHIDDON dOWN 5 miles east of Okehampton....... we have excellent Vets just across the road , Stringer Equine.... considered by many to be the best around.

I probably don't count, as I'm just across the cornwall/devon borders, but just wanted to welcome you to the area.

Izzwall, I am so jealous of your hacking on dartmoor - ours is really poor as we don't even have any bridleways. Very frustrating as I don't have transport at the moment. Ah well, time for more schooling then

My boy came from a Trekking Centre near Okehampton (now closed) so feel "connected" with the area - and I'd KILL for the hacking you guys get up on the moor!!! Lucky towds!

The riding does look good as we are near hatherleigh moor.I will investigate at the weekend when we move in. If anyone knows the hatherleigh/exbourne area that would be great!
