*Anyone have just an earth base in their field shelter?

SCG, I would avoid any type of chippings as some are sharp and could cause damage. 50mm ("two inch down") is quite large and will be uncomfortable even to walk on until bedded down or "blinded" with smaller material. The pea gravel I use is just that. Small round pebbles about the size of a pea. Not sure I would use road planings either.

Can I just say this is one of the most helpful threads I have ever read on a forum ever (except for the one on a parenting website which told me to use scissors to cut pizza :D).

We have a field shelter with an earth floor and it is absolutely bone dry, even in the driving wind and rain and snow. I have always thought we should put a bed down. After reading this I won't bother and I've just saved myself loads of extra work and cash. :D

Another one with earth floor. I tried bedding when I had my old shetland and both of the sods used it as a toilet and slept outside, even in wind and snow!
