I get my new horse on friday and I'm looking at quote for insurance. SEIB have given me the best price so far. I wondered has anyone had to claim from them and how good are they at paying out.
Thanks
I had a loss of use claim and they paid up..and I would have recommended them wholeheartedly however since then I have had one or two times when the insurance was not as fully covering as I would like.
Apparently if you have 2 horses and share tack saddles/bridles between them you are supposed to have it insured twice over if the 2 horses ar not always on the same premises at all times...and they would not pay one element of a vets bill as although the vet recommended the procedure the Insurance Co said it was not essential treatment and therefore not covered.
I dont suppose they are any worse than others though.
I had my horse insured with them and they were great when I had to claim. However, when it came time to renew, the premium went up by about 30% which they told me was just "market pressure". Plus they wanted to exclude the leg, even though my vet said they shouldn't. So now am with Am Trust.
I've got my insurance through a company called Stoneways and I've found them very competetive on price. You can get a quote online. I haven't made a claim however, if ever I do, i'll let you know!
Did not have a good experience with SEIB despite having been a 'good' customer for many years and having never made a claim, then when I finally did I had a dreadful expereince, got a payout of probably less than 10% of my claim and found their customer service absolute toilet. It completely multiplied the stress I was going through anyway with a poorly nag. So I am now with NFU who have been excellent. SEIB may come out cheaper but its not till you come to claim that you can really judge how good a company is.
I got a quote and they wanted to exclude any claims whatever the cause on any of all four legs due to pre-existing minor splints that were causing no problems whatsoever. So watch out for the exclusions as with any policy. I have used Petplan for years with absolutely no problems.
I went with SEIB for my new horse last July and when he got injured 3 weeks after purchase they paid out a rather hefty claim in full. They paid the vet promptly and did not query any of the treatment my horse received. So can't fault them so far, but I haven't had a renewal quote yet!!
