Anyone having problems with haylage?

I’ve had to call up a haylage HQ to report of some mouldy haylage bales from a supplier. Got another 2 bales from another supplier and the first one was lovely and non fussy horse demolished it but the second one was mouldy.

Got another bale from the same supplier and that went back as mould was not only on the outside but inside too.

Today got the 2 replaced with another 2 and opened the 1st bale and again mould inside and outside. Opened the 2nd bale and that didn't smell right – well neither smell very nice at all and horse will not eat any of it. I shall be returning them again next week. These bales are all 2012 crops. Does anyone have any delivery of 2013 crops of the green and white bales in the South East?
 
The yard I work on has had issues with haylage this year too - it's 2013 crop now to be fair and we probably only use half of each bale due to mould, luckily YM only pays for what she can use, but she has to buy from the man who owns the yard so not much choice!

Where abouts are you? May be able to help
 
Our yard just had some of this years delivered and to be frankly, it's very light and green and looks more like hay to me, it's also quite dusty, looks like its dried out too much, am damping it down.
 
I had lots of mouldy bales & two that were full of oak leaves and acorns!! from a VERY well known company last winter, so much so that I gave up using it and found an alternative supply. That was not only much cheaper but also lovely quality! The only reason I stuck with the big name stuff was that it came in lots of wedges which makes it easy to feed the others all seem to come in either one tangled lump or 4 BIG wedges :-(

we were sending more back than keeping of 2012 crop it was becoming v annoying
agree 2013 crop better but does look more like hay and not v damp.
2012 crop will be dodgy now as birds have been pecking holes hense the mould
 
To be fair, farmers really had a battle to make any haylage at all last year, let alone good haylage. Even the good stuff we got last year was average! Hopefully this year's crop should be wonderful.
 
Our haylage is made on site
This years differs so much from bale to bale. Sometimes it dry like hay. Other times it's wet like silage. Must say the last few have been perfect :)

As others say last years was awful.
 
I've just had a delivery this morning of this years stuff, it is lovely smells great and he is doing bigger bales than last year for the same price so I'm very happy! Last years stuff was rubbish, I had lots with mould in which he always refunded me for and the quality wasn't very good either.
