Anyone heard of a back man / Chiropractor named TEX

I know a couple of people who have used Tex Gamble for their horses and have since moved on to other chiropractors... do the means really justify the end?

I think he's brilliant. A lot of the top event riders use him. I used to drive him around and watched him work for years. I've watched him turn lame horses into sound ones, and he's changed the future of at least two horses destined for the skies as they were unrideable.
I'd say you need to see him work before you pass judgement. As far as the mallets go, he doesn't directly hit the horse with force, he places one rubber mallet on the vertebrae that need to be realigned, and uses the other to strike the first one.
He's the best back man I've ever used, and I wish he came to France.

i've used him, and wouldn't again if you paid me. how the hell my good mare was ever sound again afterwards, i do not know. he did her no good at all.
oh, and he smoked in wooden stables with shavings beds, resting his fag on the top edge of the kicking boards while he treated! i nearly had heart failure!

I use Tex all the time on all of my horses and rate him extremely highly, he has turned two of my horses that where lame due to trapped nerves in there shoulders sound when the vets had given up on them (they both tripped and came up lame) Most of the time I take my lot for MOTs and the occasional time that I have had a problem I don't tell him as he goes over the whole horse and then when he finds a problem he has asked me if my horse did this or that, in the case of the two lame ones where they lame on a circle but sound straight to which I replied yes then he explained what they had done and how they had done it, the best case was my big hunter 18.1hh shire x dwb by no means a small horse who for no apparant reason to me started to throw me out of the saddle on left canter everytime his left hind landed, extremely uncomfortable and worrying, vets could find nothing but agreed he wasn't right and it was a problem, farrier noted that he had started to wear his hind left shoe unevenly, whilst tearing my hair out I phoned to see if Tex was coming upto the area and luckily he was, he found the problem, told me how he had done it and fixed him, we have never looked back since AND my vets agreed my horse was now right so you can't disagree with that OH and the scariest thing I ever did was to let him work on me!!!!!!!!!! I nearly died with fright I kid you not but due to a grade I dislocation of my AC joint in my shoulder I was in agony for about 18months and was back and forth to the hospital, physios and osteopaths with limited weeks of almost pain free, Tex could see straight away I had a problem when I was visiting with one of mine and offered to "do" me so I agreed and I can only say after nearly dying of fright my shoulder is now pain free!!
These days If I have a horse that isn't right with no obvious signs I call on Tex's services before the vet, I know a lot of people especially vets will disagree with this but in my experience it has saved my horses months of non needed tests and box rest and he has always "fixed" them.
Go for it give him a go I hope you will be pleased and your horse pain free if it has a problem that Tex can fix! If you want to know anymore feel free to PM me I have used him for years and am due this week to him, well neddy is!! Goodluck.

My horse had seen several different people, starting with vet, other well recommended chiropractors, etc. and Tex did more for her in one session than all the others put together.

I always think the hammers are more for the owners than the horse - I have seen other chiros run across the stable and thump the horse when necessary, so seem to be the same. Depends on what the problem is.
I overheard him telling the people in front that there was nothing he could do for their horse (after they took him as a last resort), so he wasn't trying to string them along (unlike others I have come across).

I haven't seen him round here for years, I didn't know he was still working. I thought he was OK, but take as you find I suppose.

Hazydaze, if you want to pm me, I'll give you any info you want. I can let you know the Olympic event riders that use him, and the successful racing people that rate him too. He' taught me things about horses that amaze me, and like a previous poster, I'd trust his diagnostic abilities before a vet.
I base my opinion of him on the hundreds of times I've seen him work on all sorts of ponies and horses. He has also been the only person to relieve my neck pain and headaches.
His downside is that if he's tired or busy, he can be not too great at communicating with the owner.

Seems he's a bit of a marmite on here though........

Oh my God. don't touch with a barge pole. I used him years ago as did someone else I know. He made two of our horses lame and left another with severe muscle damage. what he does is not regulated nor is it safe to do on horses. It isn't something you would ever do on humans and horses are absolutely no different. If you watched your mother being thrown around a treatment room and hit with mallets I'm pretty sure you wouldn't go back for more. Everyone's opinions differ but I have to say all i have heard is very bad things.

I wouldnt. Anyone who says a horse has a vertebrae 'out' cant know anatomy very well. If a vertebrae/pelvis/ etc was 'out' it would be dislocated. Muscles can be uneven each side but impossible for a vertebrae to be dislocated and the horse still walking. Veterinary physiotherapist would be better.
As for the use of mallets as a treatment i think thats v dangerous, could cause huge harm.

Brilliant man, after years of hassling my vets to find out what was wrong with my horse (I think they started thinking I was mad as I just knew he wasn't right but no one beleived me!) he found the problem and he fixed it. I suppose, as with anyone, you will get people who will have good and bad stories but if he's travelled and treated an olympic team I don't think he can be all that bad??

Well I had Tex see to my big horse on Wednesday and told him what was being said on here and from what I gathered he will be replying soon, or at least I hope he does, be interesting to see what he has to say to some of the horror stories that have been written about him..... Anyway all I can say on the matter is that me and my neddy left Tex's company feeling SO MUCH BETTER

)))))))))!! And Neddy moved as was intended after Tex sorted him, very wary horse of strangers, won't even catch for my OH who feeds him loads of carrots EVERYDAY but you can tell by the way he is with Tex that he simply adores the guy as do I, anyone who can help horses the way he does deserves my adoration!

Im sure the back man who did the college horses was called Tex, he was missing a thumb or finger on one of his hands (might not be the same guy!!)

But whatever he was good!! O and he used wooden blocks and mallets (if needed)...I think.....
