Anyone heard of or use Just Grass??

I tried this last year as an alternative to chaff to bulk out my girls feed. Because come feb time she's so sick of hay and chaff she won't eat it.

It smelt nice, looks just like grass and my girl seems to like it, so thumbs up from me. Nice for them to get some grass when theres none in the fields I think.

Yes its good stuff. Used it in the past. Its as it says on the tin, Just Grass and didnt send my energetic mare loopy when she had it.

The horse i'm riding seems to like it too just wondering what else he would need as a happy hacker that lives out all year and does the odd it of schooling.
I know it sounds daft but there is so many options out there!

it's really good stuff, i use it alot especially when there is no grass around!! for him i would give him the just grass and some cheap horse and pony nuts, that will probably be enough!!

If the horse is looking well and not struggling to do what you want then all I would add would be some high fibre nuts and the odd carrot or too. If good hay/haylage is being fed then they dont need much more in my opinion.

Aint heard of Just Grass, but I use Ready Grass (Spillers) as a chaff as I am tired of all the sugar in everything. My lot love it.

Phew...luckily that's what he is on. not a big lover of supplements unless really needed, see so many horses at work getting this that and the other when maybe they don't necessarily need it or can have the 'problem' solved.
Long as he gets some fresh stuff too like carrots then it keeps him happy.

I'm glad that other people use it as not many people i've spoken to have heard of it.

Just Grass is fantasitic stuff, it's exactly what it says on the packet. Please dont mix it up with redi grass which is cut/dried spring grass, this is the equivilant to competition mix. I made this mistake a few years ago believeing it to be similar stuff and gave my poor pony lami due to the high sugar content from the spring grass.

I have a funny feeling that the Readigrass does have added sugar in it, may be worth checking out. Having said that, if yours is fine on it then not a problem. Seem to remember a conversation I heard at my Feed Merchants.

Yep, Im a big fan, I use it instead of Chaff and have for a while, got fed up with all the added extras in Chaff (bits of twig, plastic, ferrero rocher wrappers, Lol, as well as molasses, extra oil, etc, etc )) I have two very good doers and don't need any extra anything.
My mare can be particularly silly with alfalfa based stuff, molasses etc, but this keeps her on an even keel!

Just grass is the best smelling, but have also used Graze on and Readi-grass and really rate them all!

I use it and the horses love it. Other alternatives that might be more available depending on your stockists are spillers readi grass and graze on. Out of all of them I do prefer the just grass.

Tap...tap..tap.. creak (opens back door), Tap...tap..tap..slam (back door closes) Tap...tap..tap.. creak (tack room door opens).. lifts lid of chest freezer.....heaves Readi Grass out of freezer, checks label.....slides Readi Grass back in to freezer....slams tack room door...Tap...tap..tap.. creak (opens back door) Tap...tap..tap..slam (back door closes)
A few moments of heavy breathing.........NOPE NO SUGAR OR MOLASSES!

Our horse has a scoop of it in her tea to liven it up a bit for her, seems to like it and it doesn't send her loopy.

Readigrass is fattening. It does say on the front high calorie. I don't think just grass is quite the same stuff. Both are yummy smelling though and my horses like them both plenty!

All of mine are on forage based diet, just grass, alfa a, fibre beet and top spec.

Just started feeding the top spec and have to say, my skinny TB has never looked so good in winter!

Just grass also says high calorie, and says on websire recommended for all horses and ponies except laminitics. That is only because it is the normal grass content causing the calories, laminitics on too much grass get laminitis, therefore same with just grass! Hifi which is the laminitics chaff choice I believe is mainly chopped straw, therefore lower protein and calorie.

I feed just grass because I have youngsters and wish to feed a quality fibre containing it's natural content, not molasses or added sugars etc. The protein content is good for them and they look great on it.
