Hi,

I think I have probably frightened my YO tonight by telling her that her 2yr old could have this! I quickly went online last night and googled swellings on equines chest and was confronted with a pic that looked identical to that of the horse in question. I brefly noted that it said it was caused by flys biting and in unusually hot weather..that sounded like it!

Just been online again and read further to find that its not common in the UK, is highly infectious and linked to strangles!!

So has anyone ever heard of it in the UK? Also what could the mysterious and Hugee swelling be? There is no wound and its unlikely she has been kicked..the vet has been twice and is none the wiser really?

thanks Lou..I know I did..thats why I posted this, I'm slightly embarrassed!lol (but also curious to see if it was heard of in this country)

Obviously never heard of pigeon fever and didn't read into the artical enough last night, just went on picture evidence!x

Thanks Apple cart! Seems I wasn't over reacting as much as we thought..the vet also suspected it!! Pigeon fever is basically a form of what we in the UK call Bastard Strangles.

Good news though, he drained the swelling and took a sample and it was negative, still not sure what caused it but are fairly convinced that she took a knock to the chest area.
