I went to a car boot today and picked up this book for 50p. Sylvia Molison, Stable Studies, published in 1959. I can't resist these old horse books, got a good library of them now. usually they are written in a very instructive style, with strict regimes for the horses, you know the sort of thing. But this book, OMG, whoever Sylvia was she was WAY ahead of her time. She lived partly in Kenya and partly in the UK, and had horses in both countries. Each chapter is devoted to a a particular horse, the behavioural problems it had and how she worked them out. She was very interested in horse psychology and had loads of patience. People just gave her difficult horses for free, when they couldn't cope with them, and she had enormous success with them. She seemed to find it hard to say no (hmmm sounds familiar!).

I wonder if she's still alive? I've Googled but can't seem to find any info on her. Anyway, really recommend this book if you ever happen to find it.

I was given this book in 1965 and it has formed the basis of all my interactions with a variety of horses ever since. She was truly ahead of her time. I found this forum item because I recently rediscovered my copy in a bookcase and googled her to find out if she was still alive or, if not, when she died and if she published anything else. I would love to hear from anyone with more info.
