Went to a little dressage comp today and while having a coffee break between classes we were approached by a guy giving out leaflets for this feed, he started his sales pitch by saying you must feed nothing else with this feed and that normal horse feeds were poisoning horses (especially balancers!), and also that worming was not necessary once on this feed, sceptical me asked him where were the scientific claims were to back this up he told me I had to ask the inventor, then he said it had diatomaceous earth in it and worms cannot live in it?????!!!! I asked about encysted redworm - he didn't seem to know what that was....also he said that on this feed and emaciated horse could go from deaths door to ridden work in 35 days....hmmmm

So, just googled the website and I'm not sure I believe some of the claims made. Also the price may just put some people off £25 per week, He also said nothing else must ever be fed with this feed, I asked what about hay and grazing, he said, no nothing??? Also he was trying to get it imported from the States and needed to make up a container load - so availibilty may be an issue then??!!!

Don't think I'll be in a hurry to try that then! Sticking to my native types being fed on quality hay and a few nuts IF needed!!

Knowing my luck he'll come into the shop tomorrow trying to sell us the stuff!!!

What a crap website, is it aimed at the mentally challenged?
And where is the nutritional analysis? What a load of rubbish!!

I would never feed DE to a horse, it works by scraping the surface of parasites, if it can do that I wouldnt want it inside my horse's sensitive insides. It is fine in a chicken coops and places where it works externally and it does do a good job and I am sure there are approved food quality versions but I wouldnt feed it personally

That's what made me snigger when he said about the DE and that we'd never heard of it over here - been cleaning the chicken house with it for years mate!!! And I'm sure it's illegal to make unsubstantiated medicinal claims for products....Honestly - do they think we horse owners were born yesterday?!!!

Really cannot see this taking off!!

I was approached by a similar/same guy at a local dressage show, I told him I didn't feed my horses (they only really eat grass/hay), he just ignored me and carried on with his sales pitch whilst I put the leaflet in the bin!!!

Here's what the Thrive man says about the nutritional info:

"A guaranteed analysis is printed on every bag because it is required by law. Personally I don’t care for the information much as it does nothing to indicate what the results of feeding the product are going to be. I want you to make a purchasing decision based on results other horse owners are experiencing, not by comparing the feed tag to tags on normal horse feed. I know some folks will get all bent out of shape as they have in the past, but what do you really want, wonderful healthy horses, or what you think the protein and fat etc should be on the feed tag. I prefer the results myself and so do all my feed clients, that’s why the analysis in not on the website."

Uh huh
