My husband is originally from Belfast and we are considering
moving back there in the next year or so. I have a young event bred gelding (only 18months old) and be would obviously be coming with us. So my question is what's it like having horses in NI? Are there good shows? Can anyone suggest livery yards? Good trainers? Any info gratefully recieved!

Having horses is grand here ;)

There are some very good shows, especially considering most shows in the south are easy accessible too :)

Eventing is good too, not as many events as BE but season is generally split into spring and autumn season; eventing tends to stop June to mid july and then starts back up again!
Lots of livery yards, but depends on where you want to move to; If you want to move to actual belfast or somewhere commuting distance off the motorway :)

Lots of unaff stuff, and pony club is very big here :)
Trainers depends on where you want to live ;)
I am lucky as the area I live in there are lots of pro eventers near by and good shows as well :)

Things are very active up Only_me's end of NI - bit quieter this end - but we do get lots of good visiting trainers over and run a number of clinics up there and down here, plus BHS Ireland is very active and run lots of training clinics and camps, and NI riding clubs ditto, running 3 very good camps per year with great trainers coming over. If you do move over, let us know - the NI HHOers are a friendly bunch :)

Well my husband already owns a house over here. In south west Belfast so we will be living in the city. Where we are just now we are about 15 mins from my DIY yard and within an hours drive are two massive BSJA venues. So I'm trying to make sure I'm not losing anything horsey by moving!

I'm from Belfast now living in Armagh. Having lived and worked in England, I'd say TBH there's not much in the way of classy indoor venues, lots of local RC type of things, but most of the bigger places like Portmore are further out. But then NI's so small that nowhere's really far away.

I'm in Belfast atm. Plenty of livery yards within 15-30 mins. Various venues within an hour's drive - Portmore, Danescroft, Laurelview etc. Balmoral is basically on the doorstep. Ravensdale not far away either, or Cavan. I am not an eventer, but there seem to be loads of events on, and it is a small sort of place so most big events can be reached fairly easily! Not sure how our places measure up to England, but I think they're pretty nice!
