Micah just isn't getting a coat, yes it has changed slightly but there is nothing too it, its the same as my friends IDx has in the summer!!

He is not over rugged and never has been. I guess it doesn't matter really as would only clip it off if it grew too thick when I am able bring him back into work. So just curious really

He didn't grow one last year either, but stood shivering one day when I was late. He is also always wanting IN when its cold even with haylage in the field so why doesn't he grow a coat?????????

So I guess I just rug him up a little bit more to make up for it

Had one like this years ago WC who had a poor start, it took him 3 winters before he started growing a winter coat, then I didn't need to rug so much

My friend's horse is wimpy (Welsh D) and he has never grown much of a winter coat. He's rugged every winter due to shivering, yet never grows one.
My highland starts to grow hers every August and my Newfie has started around September but isn't very fluffy and really feels the rain - shivers with it so gets a lightweight on. :/

Lucky you! My Welsh D cross starts hers in July. She actually only has a true summer coat for about 3 weeks. By December she looks like a yeti and I dread it when it starts falling out in the spring because it gets everywhere and she gets even more itchy than she is normally.

another reason I nearly always clip, I get allergies and hate the coat coming out

I used to work with a mare that never grew a winter coat, she was a tb x. Very handy really as it was one less horse to clip. We just rugged her up as if she was a clipped out horse and she seemed happy enough.

My TBx doesn't grow much of one - she has patches where its longer than the rest but its really fine and soft. She grew one in 2007 with all the rain and cold summer but in 8 years of having her it was the first and only one lol. I clip her though so it doesn't really bother me :)
