Denne Hill (A2 between Canterbury and Dover) lots of fences from mini mini to around 3dt. I think they have a website and don;t forget Chilham Park, although I am not sure if they have so many fences and an easy water like DH.
Both Chilham Park and Lodge Farm have some really nice small inviting fences and the water complex at both can be made as easy or difficult as you like.
Chilham has some fantastic galloping space too, plus the ground is really good.
East Byshee (sp) is another really good one for small inviting fences which is near J6 M25. Where abouts in the SE are you?
Ooh, I can feel a SE HHO cross country schooling session coming along, I have problems finding people to come with me as most people I know are BSJA and that's it!
East Bysshe, near Blindley Heath, is where i've started all mine XC... good range of fences and good range of sizes. Biggest is about 3ft, most are around 2ft3-2ft6 ish.
Another is Lockskinners in Hever, near Edenbridge which isn't quite as nice but again alot of different tinies... though that goes up to about 3ft6 in places.
Or others sort of around the area are Twesledown, Coombelands, Blue Anchor (not often open to the public). Lodge Farm is another good one though i think they cater better for 2ft6+.
The hale in Chiddingly has a seperate mini course in a seperate paddock which is wuite good, theres a few other tinies scattered around, but they do have a seperate course.
(wouldn't actually be brave enough to JUMP anything but could rustle up a canter!). Unless of course Weezy wants to come as she is going to jump N for me - not sure if it's TOTALLY fair asking her to go straight into XC tho...
if I'm fit enough to ride again soon I'd love to join you all. I'm a novice when it comes to x country jumps. The most I have done is the small ones on the Wye ride lol but I would love to do more.Chilham park sounds very nice from what I have heard and from people who have been there it rides very nicely. They have a nice schooling field of small jumps which would be a great starting point before heading out to the main course.
Chilham is lovely - the bigger fences were designed by Scott Brickell (sp?) there are some quite big fences, and a smaller field with teeny weeny fences - plus lots of others dotted around. Chilham was the second place I took my youngster - and it is really big so lots of nice places just to have a canter.
My favourite place is Lodge Farm though - they have a wide range, the ground is lovely and it is really well maintained. I did a hunter trial at Lockskinners which was quite good but the ground isn't the best.
Excellent, Kelly 1982 we will definitely have to arrange some trips out. I'm sure your horse will love XC and if she is a bit wary of some fences then my horse is great to follow because she doesn't stop at anythig and loves the water!
Seems there are a few people up for a group trip out then. I know Lodge Farm open at the beginning of March and I think Chilham is open all year round weather depending. My horse has had a month off work due to us waiting for our new saddle to arrive but that should be with me tomorrow and then we can get back to work. So perhaps a trip out in March some time for everyone?
I would be up for East Byshee. I am terrified of XC fences. Did eventers challenge Sun and my mare has never seen a rustic fence. She was spooky at the SJ but as soon as the rustics appeared she picked up and got dead keen so think I have a XC machine.
I would think Chilham park would be the most central one to most of us being as its between Ashford and Canterbury. That would mean it would be around an hours journey for all of us.Lodge farm would be miles away from where I am and I doubt my YO would transport me that far tbh.If you are all up for it and aiming for March I am going to have to hope that my MRI comes back clear and I get the ok to ride again in time lol but it sure gives me a good incentive.
I would say for a first time XC Lodge Farm would maybe be slightly better - very good viewing for people on the ground as well!! Slightly more smaller fences and combination options I think!
