Hubby has been posted to South Shropshire so we are looking for a cheap house to buy, don't know any villages at all, can anyone advise some really horse/dog friendly villages? Can only get down there for a couple of days, would be nice to be able to focus our househunt, would really appreciate a PM from anyone who wants to advise on places to avoid too!! I hear the countryside is stunning (Lincs is a teeny weeny bit flat!), very excited about coming down, already looking at SS Riding Club.... any advice?!

I think all of Shropshire is pretty horse and dog friendly!

Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Bishops Castle are all towns in south Shrops. Newtown, Welshpool, Knighton, Presteigne are towns in Powys but they are very close to the border of Shrops. Yep as chestnut cob said most places are very horse and dog friendly =] I live in Presteigne, so pretty local to the other towns iv mentioned, theres loads more towns and places though, Have a look on the internet and feel free to ask me anything, i can always investigate inperson for you before you come here if that was any help. Good luck!

South Shropshire is a VERY big place. For example, I'm JUST in South Shropshire (east) - and Bishop's Castle is in South Shropshire - we're 35 miles apart! And Powys is further west again.

Would help to know roughly where your hubby is being posted so can advise you better!

Well, Bishops Castle will be central for him so anywhere within about 30 miles of that! We both love the look of Bishops Castle but seems to be a bit out of our price range.... we have actually been really keen on Presteigne, based purely on the countour lines and bridlepaths of an ordnance survey map

We moved to the shrops/powys borders 6yrs ago and have never looked back - we are near Chirbury, about 7 miles from Bishops Castle. Fab hacking, and very good area for fun rides - in the summer there are fun rides virtually every weekend from spring to autumn. Nice friendly hunts as well if you are intersted....
The only part of Shrops I don't like is Telford and surrounding areas - very built up compared to the rest of the county, but even there, there are still large number of yards and horsey events.
Good luck!

I moved back to shropshire at the end of August from Essex- and while it has been a huge change- i.e 10 x more rain and wind, far more difficult to get from one comp to another ( I never realised how many shows/comps/demos there were in Essex till I came here) However there is more scenic hacking and more horses generally. Its an attractive place to live just be prepared for rain!!
