Anyone in the RAF?

hi, im an ex raf photographer. it is do-able, but you do have to consider who will care for your horse while you are away. yes, you can take your horse with you if you get posted abroad. but this is costly, and there are quaranteen rules ect. i chose not to own a horse whilst serving as i could not realistically care for my horse in the manner i wanted to. most bases now have riding clubs on site or very near, and i joined one where ever i was posted to. this enables you to have good instruction and a good chance at competing if you are picked for teams. the raf positively encourage participation in sporting activities. i can honestly say that i did more competing whilst serving than i have since i left. good luck if you decide on this as a career choice.

Well someone said to me the other day, if you can ride (well)they will basically pay for you to compete and enter their competition... they even have an equine centre I am sure as they have their own equestrian teams (I think it's the saddle club) Not sure though.

Google it and call them up.x

Thanks the job certainly has what I'm looking for but I also have a committment to my horses I think I'm going to have to contact their equestrian club and see what they think

I dont know about the RAF but I am married to someone in the army and I know single people in the army who have horses, we have never had problems moving with our horses and the single people in the army haven't had many problems either, I think you have to be prepared to put your horses in full livery if you get sent on operational tour and on exercise or get a sharer who can take charge while you are away.
Many, many, service personal have horses so don't let that put you off.
