Know exactly what you mean!
I had pretty much settled on a horse before going to see Minstral (he wasn't what I was looking for or had in mind, being a tb x- I was after a cob- but his owners told me to come along and meet him anyway as- "he was a lovely lad"). I'd already seen two the day I went to see him- he was last on my list and I even said to my mum who was viewiwng with me that I really couldn't be bothered but felt I had to as the woman was so nice on the phone.
As soon as I walked into his stable my jaw hit the deck- he has a real presence and wow factor about him- and I pretty much knew there and then that he was the one.
I was grilled thoroughly albeit subtley and nicely for about three hours after we'd tried him in his owner's kitchen over a glass or two of wine!
I then spent most of the night thinking he really was far too good for me (which he really is) but head over heels in love with him. He really is the sweetest, most genuine and honest little horse I've ever met, as well as absolutely stunning.
I've had him nearly 18months now and he is with me for life. He is more forward than what I had been after initially so it's been a steeper learning curve for me (first horse in over 15 years out) but I think is far more fun as a result. We've had no real problems with each other other than his opinion that I'm rather stingey with his food(!) and I believe we share a very strong bond.
His previous owner told me later that she wanted me to buy him because of the way I was with him as soon as I walked into the stable and the way he responded to me, as they were more concerned with him going to a loving, life-long home. (They had turned down previous offers for him)
