Anyone know any reputable dealers in or around Somerset?

I'm planning to sell my horse (we're just not right for each other, sadly

), and am considering selling him on to a dealer for resale, rather than selling privately myself. However, I've had no dealings with dealers at all, so don't know any! A friend has suggested Brokerswood Farm, but I was wondering whether anyone on here had any other recommendations? Perferably not too far from North Somerset.

I'd be very grateful for any helpful suggestions!

Thanks ffgl. I have thought about selling livery, but he is quirky and has issues that devalue him so doubt whether that's the way to go really. Hate selling horses

I know how you feel about selling horses, it is really horrirble, I was thinking about advertising my horse on Project Horses, you can advertise quirky horses on there honestly, people will know what they are buying then.

What is wrong with your horse? mine won't seem to jump without sticking his head on the floor and tanking into the jump

Sorry, my earlier post about 'issues' sounded a bit sinister really, didn't it?! Basically, he's 14 (so not a project age) and not an easy ride (would buck and go sideways for ever if you could put up with it

). Also has a windgall on one front fetlock.

Sorry to hear that your horse is proving tricky

Want to swap???!

ETS - Meant to say that I don't think that he is suitable for Project Horses because of his age - what do you think?

The age is not a problem on project horses, my horse is 10, they can be any age on there.

The windgall won't be a problem at all if he is sound, it is the behaviour (like mine) that is the 'project'

No swap thank you! the next horse I get is going to be perfect

Will you make a loss (money) on him? I know I will on mine.

Where to I sign up for a perfect one then???!

As it happens mine was a bit of a bargain (now I know why!!), so I hope to not make a loss, or at least not much of one. Do feel bad about 'giving up' on him, but horses are meant to be fun, and he is just not making me happy

That's good that you won't lose money, it is sad giving up on them, I am going to try a bit of dressage this summer, if it doesn't work out he is going to have to go before the next hunting season.

What do you want to do? dressage? jump? have you tried sending him away to an 'expert'?

I really want a good (great!) hunting horse which is what I thought I had brought

So, next time I am going to try hunting on the horse before I buy it, the fieldmaster on our hunt brought his horse back from Ireland after hunting on him over there, now that sounds like a plan

The trouble is that I would like to do a bit of everything, so need a genuine allrounder and they are hard to find! Current horse will turn his hoof to most things but is too much of a handful for me, particularly to hack.

Good luck with your own horse dilemmas!
