Hi, I am looking at buying an old tractor and have been advised to get one with a loader on. Can these be bought seperately or do I need to get a tractor with one already on?

Many thanks

Jeni

My husband recently bought an old Case Tractor. He really wanted one with a front loader, but he could not find a tractor that came with one (attached). By sheer fluke I was trawling the internet and found a site selling the correct matching loader and they also had a bucket for sale. It was an expensive way to get a tractor and loader. So I would advise you to try to buy one with a loader on board as it will be a cheaper option. The other problem, is that these things are heavy and if you find on eup country, getting them transported to you can be even more expensive, then getting it bolted on, is a whole 'nother pain in the butt.

You can buy the loader separately, but you need to make sure that the tractor is capable of having one attached as not all old makes or compact ones do.

Also, as with any old vehicle, you know that with an old tractor you are going to be spending a lot of time fixing it. In fact ours is a new Siromer compact (Cost about £5k) and we spend a lot of time fixing bits on it! So you may want to think again if your mechanical knowledge is not good.

You also need to find a friendly person to help you learn how to drive it and use all the attachments PTO etc, because I can tell you from experience that its not as easy as it looks!
