Anyone know how market value is calculated on a non ridden retired horse?

To be fair to the horse it would be better to see if you could find a new home as a companion, assuming the lameness wasn't too serious and was manageable.

I’m struggling to understand if you are talking to me or the OP and what your actual point is. OP was asking about insurance valuations.

Obviously I misunderstood the point of the question but did not expect my post to be replied to in such a horrible way, demanding I apologise for suggestions I didn't make, and you 'struggling' to understand etc:
Thought this was supposed to be a friendly forum!! It's not, just nasty.

Eh? I didn’t respond in a horrible way, you replied directly to me and I didn’t understand the point of your post or what you were meaning, so I said as such (politely I felt). You should see me in action when I’m feeling less polite 😆

Tbf you implied that either OP, or IHW weren't looking after their retired horses. Other posters are fully aware that both horses have long, expensive veterinary histories and are being given a comfortable retirement with their owners being responsible for them. Neither needs a companion home.
Maybe you weren't aware of that but it was a most peculiar remark in any circumstances.

Actually, transparency, mine is in a loan home (and has been for, gosh, 9 years maybe) with me paying his drugs. He is a hybrid companion, very light hack, overgrown dog, therapy yob

Well, OP's horse is at retirement livery but she visits him and is ultimately responsible for his welfare, as you are. It was a very odd remark to make.

You are misunderstanding loss of use payments. They are made because the horse is kept alive but no longer worth what it was. You owe IHW an apology for suggesting she did the wrong thing by her horse.

You also owe an apology to every person who has decided to put a lame horse to sleep rather than risk it ending up in the wrong home, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with that choice whatsoever.

You are wrong and actually rude!! I did not imply or suggest anything but obviously you just want an argument so please don't reply again. I am disgusted at this nastiness on what is supposed to be a friendly forum

I just advertised looking for a companion pony and was inundated with offers from anything from TBs to cobs to ponies. Some of them lame , some of them old (one was 28!) and some of them with things like sarcoids.
Really, really depressing.

Were they expecting you to pay for them? If so, how much?

In answer to the original question, nothing.
