Anyone know of any dealers who are buying horses in at the moment?

I need to sell my horse asap and was wondering if anybody knew of any dealers who are actually buying horses in at the moment?

I could advertise my horse as he is so straightforward, but I am in a hurry and I know if you sell privately it can take ages - people mess you around etc.

I have found another horse and put a deposit on it, and need to sell in two weeks!

Any ideas who is buying? (I'm selling a bombproof cob, so not many eventer/sports dealers will be interested i s'pose)

Thanks

Maybe you should re read your OP?

If you don't expect people to have a pop at your why you're selling then maybe you shouldn't put that information in your post!

I was only pointing out that if you had taken my advice you would need to sell ASAP! No bunny hugging involved!

this is really quite silly as if myhorsefred is willing to give up £200 to make sure her horsey goes tot he right home then why the issue???

i got my boy off a dealer about a month ago(connemaraXwelsh D), a very reputable dealer who does not sell horses to people he believes will nto suit them. yes he is abrasive, up front and hard as nails and yes some horses are his priority eg the £60000 showjumpers or grand prix dressage horses as many of these go through his hands. a friend of mine wanted to buy a horse she tried from him and he would not allow it as he did not think the horse was suitable for her or her for him. so i think before making snap judgements and generalising on dealers you should think for a minute. and by no means am i saying all dealers are like is, i know of a great deal more that are scrupulous and a**holes than ones that are good.

CracklinRosie, For crying out loud, why should I get jumped on because you and others jumped to the wrong conclusion. Yes I need my horse sold 'asap', but to the right home asap. And I will use my judgement as to which is the right home.

DressageDevil, sorry you think I am aggressive. I am vehemently trying to make my point that I will not sell my horse to an unsuitable home.

I never get into heated debate on here and I think it's very unfair and hurtful for you to make judgements about me, when you know nothing about me.

Thank you Pixxie,

My point exactly - yes there are good dealers out there. And if I lose my 200 quid, then its not the end of the world.

Other posters have got themselves in a tizz because of the assumptions they jumped to.

Sorry I'm with the dark side on this one. Selling to a dealer is not finding a good home for your horse no matter how much your vet the dealer first. If you are that concerned - sell your horse privately before you buy in a new one or manage two for a while.

Another one here I'm afraid.

People can only comment on what they read, and the OP didn't ask for names of a good dealer, or even any dealer in particular - she asked about those which are actually buying atm, which restricts her choice to minimal proportions given the state of the market.
Then she said she has only two weeks to find him a home, as she has already put a deposit down on a replacement.
Hardly the questions of a person who wants to find the best home possible for their horse.

I am not criticising the OP - merely stating how her post reads to others.

I don't see anything wrong with selling horses through the right dealer. Good dealers make every effort to match up horse with rider - that's why they do well, and have repeat business.
I do think you'll be struggling to sell him within 2 weeks though - if that really is a fixed deadline, perhaps you'd be best advertising him, while you phone round dealers...to widen your pool of potential buyers.
Good luck.

myhorsefred, I bought my horse through sales livery, a lot of dealing yards will operate on this basis for customers, and you would probably get more for him than if you sell to a dealer. It might take longer than two weeks to sell him though, it varies. Could you afford the keep of both horses if he didn't sell straight away? Sales livery is usually not much more than full livery but the dealing yard will take a percentage of the sale profit.

Ditto Shils, I bought my first horse from a dealer and sold my second horse to one. Both horses had excellent homes through a dealer, so I wouldn't think twice if I knew the dealer was a reputable one.

MHF - many dealers buy at this time of year. I start to buy my stock from September right through till April; so it will likely be the same with most of the British dealers.

If you sell to a dealer be prepared to be offered at least half of what you think you might get for your horse. I always buy at market value, but then when I buy I know I will strike a big profit after having the horse for a couple of years. Short term dealers will expect to get their cut with a quick turnaround.

What part of the country are you? Just a thought, have you tried JM07? Your cob may be something that would interest her?

Can I also add that we sold two horses last week, after our landlord died in a house fire (in readiness for finding land for the two remaining horses, so we felt pushed for time.

We advertised them cheaply and honestly, and were innundated with calls, so much so, that we were able to vet the purchasers quite well.
Horses will sell if the buyer thinks they are getting a bargain, but over inflated prices, are a thing of the past atm.

If you are going to ask posters to read your OP and post according to it, then it will get quoted back to you.

I have never said there is a problem with selling to a dealer, I have a few friends who deal.

It is your time frame I mostly take issue with.

Oh and your attitude!

Did you say you have tried Riding schools? I think they would be interested, Ditto Tia re JM07.
I can't see why people are jumping on her so much TBH.

Good luck selling him, hope you get the horse you want

can i also add that many horses end up in terrible situations when sold privately, its not just limited to dealers so to be totally honest the only difference is you can vet a private buyer more easily, but the risks are still as great. there is no way of knowing that a private owner wont take on a horse they believe is what they want and a few months down the line sell on to a dealer they know nothing about anyway and god knows where the horsey may end up. so really selling a horse is risky full stop. not everyone is honest all you can go on is experience.
(also the dealer i mentioned has been dealing to a riding school i am closely linked with for over 20 years so what does that say about his reputation tbh)- if you need a number depending on where you are myhorsefred feel free to drop me a message and i will give you the number

I have to say (sorry!), I got the same impression as many of the others, and if it hadn't already been done would have commented that the 'old' horse is in the way and has to go quickly. There weren't any soft words in the OP for the 'old' horse. Sorry if that upsets you, but it's how it came across

I know that I have to think twice when I post on any forum because the other participants cannot see my face or read my emotions, nor can they ask quick questions to glean the full facts if I have not been clear in my original statement. I should think we've all been there.

I hope you find your current horse the right place and that you get the horse of your dreams.

I think that you'll sell your horse very easily and quickly yourself.

From what you've told me about him he sounds like a dream, and I'm only sorry that we weren't able to take our discussions further (having not sold my horse).

He's worth his weight in gold, but you will only get a fraction of that through a dealer.

Don't be in too much of a hurry to sell him - just advertise him well and sensibly, and he'll be snapped up!

I'm not a bunny hugger - but whole heartedly agree you went about things the wrong way on this thread and maybe in real life. Bombproof cobs are always saleable whatever the market!! I reckon if you put him on horsemart today you will have sold him by the time you need to pick up your ""dream horse"
However i noticed 2 people posted interest about your horse, i didnt get a reply so can only assume your more interested in defending yourself than selling your pony!
