Hi, my parents are looking for a dog and I'm wondering if anyone on here knows of any that need rehoming or good rehoming centres.

Our last dog was a rescue - we got her as a 6 week old puppy and she died at the age of 21, so was an enormous part of our family.
She died a couple of years ago, and my mum now feels it's time for her to get another one, especially as their elderly cat also died recently (the main reason for not wanting to introduce another dog into the house sooner and upset her).

They aren't home all day every day but the dog won't be left for long stretches - my mum is home every lunchtime and my dad is often at home during the week depending on work. My sister arrives home from school at 4pm, and there's always someone around at the weekend.

Ideally, they're looking for:

A young dog (doesn't have to be a puppy)
Preferably a female
Medium sized
Definitely not a staff or staff x
Preferably not a hyper breed such as spaniel or collie

In return, it'll get a very loving home, with lots of exercise and attention, contact with other dogs if necessary, a big-ish garden and proper training. It'll also get to come out riding with me when I steal said dog to come out hacking

So if anyone knows of anything suitable, please let me know - thanks

There was an 11 month old GSD needing a home, advertised at House and Jackson. Can get details if you like?

Thanks - unfortunately I think a GSD might be a bit big. My dad wouldn't mind but my mum doesn't want anything too big - and potentially prone to dsyplaxia. Thanks anyway though.

I think her ideal dog would be very similar to our old one - a scruffy mongrel who who go everywhere and do everything and never gets ill!
Our old dog was found tied up in a bin bag at 6 weeks old and thrown down the rubbish chute of a block of flats

She seemed to suffer no ill effects from it though, and was the most hardy brilliant little dog.

Its a pity u are so far away...we will be looking for a home for our dumped mammy....but not till the pups are weaned.......im sure u will find something though....there will be loads of rescues in your area...good luck and piccies when u get one

Oh she is gorgeous (very crafty posting a pic first and foremost

)

Whereabouts are you?

Any ideas on how old she is or what breeds she might be crossed with?

LOL.....was just sowing an example of a shaggy dog..female young and friendly

we are In Durham...she is about 3 years old and looks like a milk maid at the minute...lol

Seriously though....u will find an abundance in your area that u could adopt much quicker...cos she has to wean...then wait even longer to be speyed before she goes.

I've had a look at a few rescue home websites, but everything seems to be either too big, have a lot of problems or staff/collie/spaniel.

We're looking for a mid sized shaggy dog - doesn't have to be gorgeous, or a breed or anything, just sane and able to cope with a normal family without chewing everything to pieces or attacking the neighbours' dogs!

I'm sure he/she is out there somewhere.....

Lol......its probabley harder when u have something specific in mind...its a shame though...our mammy is crate trained now because of babies, ...so will have no probs when re-homed cos she can be crated if need be and well...I have 7 million dogs...lol so shes is used to those, she is not to big either...she is about whippet size maybe smaller, god knows whats she s crossed with...terrier in there most probabley.............if u havnt found anything by christmas....give me a shout.

i think you would probably like a lazy lurcher (the whippet X's are small

they are so docile in the house, dont need too much excercise and CAN live with cats

I totally agree actually - although would HAVE to be good with cats and other small furries as the dog may stay with me when parents go on holiday.

Will go check out websites - thanks
