Anyone know this dog or can anyone help this dog?

Thanks.

I don't know the person who found him as this was just shared by a friend. Just thought was worth a punt in case someone does recognise him.

It's probably gone to a council pound as opposed to a rescue as you say. Once it has been impounded, unless they can find the registered owner, there's not a lot they can do. This will continue to happen when people don't realise the difference between a council run pound and a rescue centre.
Or does the pound relent, they rehome to someone and it ends up like the recent tragic case where a pound dog killed a small child?
Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

In the Republic of Ireland, if the breed is on the 'restricted' list, the dog will only be surrendered to the owner (if it has been lost or has strayed) or a dedicated/recognised rescue organisation....but some breeds are just put to sleep automatically after their seven days or so.

Hmm, yeah I guess so. If the related breed rescue came forward to take it on though, would the pound not let them take it then? I know rescues do weekly pick ups from local pounds they think they can rehome but would a pound refuse to let a rescue take a particular dog? I can't imagine they would but I know little about these things. I can understand them not rehoming a possible 'difficult dog' to an individual but can't see why they wouldn't let a rescue centre take them.

I'm sure each council has its' own policy - this one from one not far from me:

The law requires that all stray dogs are kept for a minimum of 5 days to allow the owners the opportunity of reclaiming them. Unwanted dogs may be destroyed immediately. The Council however will make every effort to responsibly re-home healthy unclaimed stray dogs and unwanted dogs. Dogs that are very ill or have a history of aggressive behaviour are deemed unsuitable for re-homing. All unclaimed stray dogs and unwanted dogs that cannot be re-homed are put to sleep by intravenous barbiturate injection by a veterinary surgeon. Injured stray dogs are brought to the Council’s veterinary surgeon for appropriate treatment.

It is very sad to be honest. I don't think I could be a vet working for a place like this (my home would be overrun by dogs!)

Oh, well thanks for the update - how did you find out? Sort of a good thing but yes it does sound like maybe the owners realised they had bitten of more than they could chew! Hopefully he will find an appropriate home now! :-)

If you look on the post there is an ongoing update - the owners (or someone who might have been the owners ;) ) made arrangements to collect & re-home him responsibly :)

I saw an update on the thread I put on the dog forum. Lévrier, are you looking at the facebook thread? I couldn't see an update?

Ah sorry I remember now - I saw the same link posted onto a husky rescue facebook page, and that was where the update was. Originally the pound said they wouldn't release the dog to anyone but the original owners, as they claimed the dog had shown signs of aggression, not even to a recognised rescue charity with access to experienced foster homes, behaviourists etc. Then someone took some pictures of the dog along to the pound and said they were the owner so the pound released the dog to them :)
