Hi,

Does anyone know Grade A SJ "MASTER VAN HET", chestnut gelding, big lad getting on a bit (18 this year) quite a sharp forward going ride. Ridden by Mrs Hibbert and a few times by Neil Martin. Hasn't competed since 2004

Just wondering as went to try him yesterday at a friends and really quite like the old boy as he's my type of ride

Don't know of him i'm afraid, but the BSJA website has him down as 17 this year, not 18

Yes I spotted that, but he actually 18 on 19th Feb. Nice horse to ride, apparantly micheal Marino also had him, but got no contact number for him. Just trying to be careful as had older Grade A's before and all but 1 had switched off. He rides sharp, and seems very honest and really do want to take him home, juss erring on the side of caution
Have to say he didn't jump yesterday like a horse that had jacked it, loved the job or so it felt.

I guess it depends at what level he used to compete. There's a very wide range of heights available to Grade A's

Perhaps just a step or two down would suit him rather than total retirement from jumping

Whereabouts is the horse, I've probably seen him if Michael was riding him. Have you got his printout, what sort of classes was he jumping?

The name rings a bell

- what areas has he jumped in? Just being nosey (very nosey but thats me!) what other older Grade As have you had, you sound like you've had a few! I got a 22yo Grade A mare and she likes to keep you on your toes by very occassionally ditching you at the last second (a habit i've learnt she has had her whole life and she has ditched some of the best!

so I don't take it personally! lol

If he's 18 this year then the fact that his name starts with M is a very strong indicator that he is a Belgian Warmblood (BWP), as that is the letter that all 1989 foals names started with. Also "van het" means "from the" in dutch/flemish, and in 99.99% of cases would be followed by a stud/place name. I would imagine this has been lost somewhere along the way, however double check his passport, I'm sure there should be an extra bit to his name even if it's never been registered with the BSJA! If you could find that out there is a chance I could find out if he had a career in Belgium for you...

Yes he is Belgium. His full name is MASTER VAN HET LINDENHOF

I have had several Grade A's. Can't name them as most were stallions and now stand at stud with other people. Last Grade A I had previously was SOLCUM DILLONALD that Geoff Glazzard used to jump. He was my best mate and we got on Soooooooo well. Unfortunately lost him 3yrs ago as we were just getting in the swing of things as he hadn't jumped for about 6yrs. Lost him with suspected salmonella and endotoximia. Very very sad, I would still have him now otherwise.

I'm sorry to here that! I'm sure i'd seen him about thou years and years ago! He was a really nice horse! Veyr dark in colour wasn't he but not black if i'm thinking of the right horse! There a stallion in Cornwall called Desmond that Geoff use to ride he looks nice! You got me intrigued about these stallions! I looking for a stallion for my mare this year have you any suggestions? If you can PM me the ones to avoid as well that would be appreciated. Welcome to the forum by the way Ive just noticed your new, i'm a newbie too!

Thanks for info.

Desmond, quite similar looking to Donald. Donald is pictured on back page of BSJA show dates in the Graham Plueless ltd ad.

Master van het is a chestnut about 17HH

i recognise the name, i m in the same area-ish as michael marino so i guess i must have seen it jump, but i cant seem to recall it. not so helpful sorry! what kind of classes did it jump it with him?

Hi
Last time I heard Michael Marino was based at Badgeworth Arena. Why not give Neil Martin a ring and ask him. He owns Barton Equestrian Centre and they have a web site.

I recognise the name and must have seen it jump at one point or another as Michael is my neck of the woods but couldn't tell you what it looked or jumped like so pretty useless except not one that stuck in my memory which most of the impressive horseys round my way do
