My new horse was very poor and underweight when i purchased him 6 weeks ago but doing really well and putting lots of weight on, however he has got this dry, flaky, scabby and sore patches come up on his face and now starting to appear on his nostrils, he is rubbing them so making them sore and causing it to make the area bigger. Ive heard some horses can be allergic to alfa a which i have been feeding him on, is this true and would it cause this? Also ive noticed a few burrowing holes in his stable each morning where he is digging down deep in the walls of his straw bed and also wondered if it might be an allergy to straw although he has been on a straw bed since ive had him and this has only cropped up in the last few weeks. Anyone seen anything like this before? Ive used a malaseb shampoo on it and it looks like it is drying up a bit since but he is still itching it. Any suggestions???
