Anyone know where my post went?

OK - so an International event rider has a 17 yr old horse that is a bit of a bu88er in the start box, has tendon issues, and goes a bit fast into its fences.

No - I don't expect that rider to put loads of effort into that horse when he/she has a yard full of fit, promising youngsters.

What should happen to that horse?

Oh - I know!!! Let's give him to a sanctuary in Wales to be re-homed! We'll let them advertise him as a 4* eventer who can still 'compete to a high level' and hope that everything's OK. It'll be fine! Nobody will know, and nobody will talk about it. That's alright then.

It wasn't given by the rider/owner etc to the sanctuary. Thats the problem here, too many busy bodies getting their 'facts' completely wrong.

It was given to a happy hacker. Having ridden enough fit 3*/4* horses I know even at the age of 16 the majority are certainly NOT candidates for happy hacking homes. If he couldn't carry on at top level what was wrong with loaning him to someone to teach the ropes, loaning him as a jumper/dressage horse (he should manage atleast medium quite easily) or as a hunter?

Do you think it appropriate that Tim Stockdale and owners send Glenwood Springs to the local hunt kennels now that he serves no purpose?

Why the hell was he given to a happy hacker? This is the problem - he's now ended up in a slightly dodgy sanctuary precisely because he shouldn't have been given away as a happy hacker.

Someone needs to take responsibility for the fate of ex-competition horses - they certainly should never end up advertised as this one was.

That's the main thing, but I still think that the rider/owner when the horse was competing has a responsibility to that horse that should be lifelong.

They should be devastated to think that one of their horses is now in the hands of a sanctuary.

Precisely my point!

And this is why we SHOULD discuss things like this - I think the people who owned this horse when it was successful owe something to him now he's fallen on harder time in his 'old age'.

It shouldn't be down to random sanctuaries to re-home horses of this calibre at any age. They just don't really know what they're dealing with half the time. They have the best intentions and do a grand job - but not with 4* horses surely!!!????

How is this discussion any different to everyone trying to guess who Spencer Wilton's new partner was????
