Hi anyone lack comfodemce jumping bigger tracks , I have just started sj one of mine after a few months break as he had surgery now fine to be jumped again , however when I have not jumped big tracks for a while I loose my confidence a bit especially through doubles , I took him clear round jumping tonight and was late arriving so they were already about 1.05. Jumped very well
In collecting ring then just panicked in the ring jumped round but just kept loosing my nice rytham and getting hold of him a little , had few problems at double but jumped it in the end , did more in the collecting ring and jumped very well I just lack confidence !!!

I have exactly this problem. So I will be interested to hear what others have to say.
XC I will jump anything but as soon as the SJ get above a metre I have a complete melt down.
So much so I am thinking about giving it up.
The weird thing is I am starting my four year old and I love this. Work that out if you can

Why do you need to jump bigger? Work that one out first and when you have the lightbulb moment that you don't need to jump bigger and it is better to enjoy what you are happy doing life will be so much better. And the funny thing is that over time after jumping happily at the lower heights you suddenly don't mind jumping a bit bigger. Do what makes you happy and ignore any peer/internet/forum pressure to jump bigger until it is what you want to do.

I suffer badly with SJ nerves. So much so that even having done half a dozen BE100 events this season I got to BCA at the end of September and totally bottled the SJ and couldn't jump.

Rushed over to Nick for a emergency lesson and all he did was throw poles all over the place - and I mean that, no distances measured so some were long, some were short and it changed everytime. The course wasn't big, 90 - 95cm and everytime I came round a corner there was another pole or it was in a different place. The idea behind this was to make sure I just rode and didn't worry about if I had the perfect stride. It worked well and watching the video I looked so much more confident.

I bottled it on the Tuesday and on the Sunday had my RF - not the best prep but I spent the four days between reading the chimp paradox and watching all my SJ rounds that had gone ok. I stormed round the SJ - my worst score, a stop (my fault) and two down but I didn't bottle it after the stop and came out with the biggest smile ever.

Our plan is to spend the winter showjumping :biggrin3:

It' doesn't make me feel quite as bad , I've always jumped big tracks but always had confidence issues but the more I've done the better I got but then my horse had to have some melanomas removed so had few months off so now coming back I'm a bit rusty , went jumping again today and was good didn't jump to big just a sweetener off out again tomoz to have a practice making the most of no work x x

Speaking as someone who can't jump more than 2ft 6in these days, I think give yourself a break and say well done to yourself for doing really rather well. It's meant to be fun after all.

Same with me. I'll quite happily jump anything xc with my pony Sox, but he tends to become strong and fast SJ so we are trying to sort that! Thing is I want to be an event rider. Sox is a bit nervy SJ and just plain naughty doing dressage!

I used to get so worked up about SJ, my confidence just went once the jumps went up. Recently, I booked a lesson on a schoolmaster with one of the senior instructors, and I was jumping the highest I've ever jumped! Then you can "bottle" that feeling and remember the buzz you get from it, and try and recreate it with your own horse! It worked for me and I'm so much more confident now!

I just keep the height to a minimum. I'd rather be OK jumping the course and afterwards think "that was a little small" than over face me or him. My jumping confidence is a bit fragile as it is.

To be honest I've not really done much sj until I got my new one. I've done a couple of 75cm classes/clear round nights and I am much more confident I did a ode at 2ft9 a bit heart in mouth moment but once I had done it I had such a buzz. My horse does not have an issue with jumping it is me but slowly getting there. Qualified trailblazers second rounds in the 75 cm but I am hoping to qualify in the 85 and possibly 95 which if you asked me this in December when I bought the boy would I be doing I would laugh.

I believe get some confidence around smaller tracks, lessons, and just have a go at slightly higher course in time, my horse jumps miles better the bigger they are. I believe most do but after doing a bigger class I felt like we met the jumps a lot better and course flowed better aswell.
