We have a huge abundance of wood and bits on the yard and OH is endlessly useful, so just need ideas/sizes etc :) oh and photos would be a bonus!!:D

this is made from exterior MDF (i think) and is scraps out of my Dads workshop. The MDF is about an inch thick and I have painted it to weatherproof it a little more.

I needed something a little more robust after my girl did this to my original mounting block

I have never bought a mounting block always made my own.

I have a tall one here made from railway sleepers (they were here when we moved) There were several off cuts of sleepers which I stacked on top of each other, then placed two sleepers on top of those. Old concrete blocks form the steps to it.

It is much bigger and taller than normal because I use it to get the youngsters use to me being above them before backing them. It is also in a permanent position but I don't mind that.

Ikea do a wooden step block (I assume for decorating)but it's perfect height for a mounting block. Great for in the lorry and a halfway house between making your own. You can feel like a diy hero assembling it whilst knowing it'll be safe to use!

YES!

Super simple, lightweight and moveable.

3x milk crates + 8 x cable ties = mounting block!

(ask your local post office nicely, they will probably give the crates to you for free!). 2 on the "bottom" held together with 4x cable ties. Then one on "top" also attached with 4x cable ties.

Perfect!

Mine is the brick columns the milk churns used to stand on top off before they were collected many years ago although the platform has long cracked up but I now have a rather smart (and huge!) ornate sandstone bridge topping from the railway bridge (it's ok, we do own our piece of line which includes a bridge, lol!) At least I know it won't move or fall down.

Mine was made for me as a surprise Crimbo prezzie by my OH after we had agreed we wouldn't buy each other anything (we were skint) 5 years ago. It gave me faithful service and was actually used for it's last year of life by the whole yard until a stupid blind cow reversed into it at speed and rendered it unrepairable :(

Tk maxx have these fold flat step/seat at the moment. Tonnes of colours and styles. Very lightweight and folds super flat, I wish I had bought it the other day. I thought it would be handy for plaiting, seats for show/tackroom. They were £7.99 I think. Would do as a mounting block too, not a high one but handy all the same!

That's what I use! :) Although I had a minor dissagreement and landed my fat butt on it and snapped a leg off.... My dad put the leg back on and put an extra ring of wood around the bottom to make it more stable on the arena floor. No more legs coming off now!

I made one this summer from the wooden slats of an old double bed, it took me 5 hours to make it!

Its basically a wooden crate shape but a bit higher than I can buy as little legs and big horses, plus I inserted some off cuts of rubber matting on the top so its non slip and then painted it with creosote so the horses weren't afraid of it!

I love it and now everyone uses it on the yard its solid, it should be it has a whole pack of 100 new screws holding it all together!
