Anyone near Manningtree, Essex?

I'm going back to visit one of my relatives in Manningtree for a few days. Of course, I immediately looked for somewhere local to go for a hack.

I found two places that look good: Wix Equestrian Centre and Bentley Riding School. Has anyone ridden at either of these places? I'm looking for a nice hack on a steady horse in pleasant countryside.

Bentley Riding School is very friendly, only hacked out once there but it was nice. Less polished around the edges that some places but horses are well cared for.

However never hacked out at Wix so not sure what the hacking is like but it seems popular and well respected, has lots of events etc. I think it is larger than Bentley

Wix Eq Centre always used to be a centre for shows. As far as I know, they don't have any horses at all

i rode a bentley for 7 year and everone is very friendly and they have a wide range of horses and ponies to suit everyones needs

I used to ride at Bentley all the time, they have some great forestry rides, and their horses are normally pretty nice.

I remember being told once by the owner (lovely old guy, can't remember his name, argh!) that I couldn't take my favourite school horse Vodka out for a hack because she was 'scared of tigers'. I cheekily asked if there were many tigers living in the woods......
He replied 'no, but Vodka doesn't know that'.

Has stuck with me ever since, as I think it explains some of Twiglet's behaviour
