Anyone NOT keep their tack on the yard?

I'm thinking about moving my horse closer to home, the downside is it's a farm and there is no tack room. The people who are there bring their tack up from home but I have a sharer and I'm not sure how that's going to work in our case? I know you can get those saddle locks so I wondered if that would be the answer?

Anyone have a similar problem?
 
Mine comes home with me everyday. Its a pain but it would be an even bigger pain if it was stolen.
Its a bit tricky with a sharer, I would invest in a tack locker but chain it to something, otherwise they will just take the whole locker. Thats providing the YO allows it.
 
I keep it in my car usually, but thats because I had three saddles to lug around so I didnt keep it in the house as it would mean taking all three in and out every day. Don't trust yard and theirs not a lot of room there anyway. Don't know why I think its safer in my car!!! Now they are in my porch as I sold one horse and the other is broken

i keep mine at home. Its not worth the risk. We have no where safe to keep it at our field. Better to be safe than sorry
 
Having lost 4 saddles to do as you likies 2 years ago, despite being chained! My tack comes home, once bitten twice shy

I don't know what else I could do - unless I expect the sharer to buy her own tack!!
 


Never leave my tack on the yard. It is secure but I'd hate for it to be stolen & I don't want it being 'mistaken' for anyone else's as happened at my old yard.

Saddle & bridle comes home with me. Spare bits etc are kept in a lockable tack box & headcollar etc is hung up in her allocated space.

If I were you I'd get a saddle lock or one of those small tack lockers. Have you thought of looking to see of there are any ordinary lockers for sale/free to pick up?
 
i keep my everyday tack in my tackroom but its alarmed with a mortice lock and is a steal enforced door. My good tack i.e my devcoux's stay in my tackroom in my house. If i had a sharer i'd probs invest in a tack locker and ensure i only have stuff that if it did get stolen wouldnt have sentimental value or is too good. Its sad we have to do this in this day and age, i remember when i was a child we never had a lock on our tackroom let alone the need to take tack home.

I would never leave my tack outside period. I keep my horses at home, but we still have buggers that will cut padlocks to break in. Plus i think its better to store tack where the temperature is constant

If i had a sharer I'd seriously consider investing in a second set of kit so you each had it (plus then you don't get someone trashing the saddle you paid for)
 
I had this one hand made to fit the horse only last summer - she is a funny shape and I couldn't get a synthetic one to fit her unfortunately (or else I would have loved one rather than spending a fortune I couldn't really afford).

CotswoldsSJ even if I got a second saddle then I would have still paid for it if she trashes that one?
 
True - but in my case I was paying someone to ride my horse and they trashed the brand new wintec I bought (scraped it against breeze blocks). So on the one hand I was really pissed off, but on the other it wasn't my £850 pessoa....

I haven't had good experiences with sharers, so I would try to get them to 'invest' to make sure they look after things.

However if a funny shape, you are more limited as you don't want 2 custom made ones!
 
I dont leave tack at my yard, in fact none of us do. The only equipment we leave at the yard are grooming kits, rugs the horses are wearing and a spare rug/fleece or something like that. I leave other rugs either in the boot of my car or at home depending on what i'm using at that particular time of year. Oh, i'm buying a web bridle for everyday use save getting the good leather one ruined & i'll leave that in the tack room as they only cost about £15. Like others have said, it's a bit of a pain in the bum carrying it around all the time but much less hassle than if it got stolen.
 
We keep the horses at home, but keep the saddles and bridles we use (have a strnge collection of old gear:) ) in the house. This is after our neighbour had her tack stolen out of her secure tack room.
 
We don't keep tack at the yard, and try to limit even rugs to the minimum required. We have been broken into, but they stole NOTHING. I think if they break in and find it worth the effort they are more likely to leave the yard to re-stock then try again.
 
Ponies are on a yard round the corner from our house. We keep the saddles & bridles at home, plus rugs not in use. I just don't fancy the hassle of having to replace over £2,000 worth of kit in a hurry because someone else stole it. I'd rather have it cluttering up my house.
 
I keep my tack at home, always have done as I've been on 3 yards that have been broken into. At my current yard, there was a break-in last year and they just cut right through one of those saddle rack locks (the yellow ones that come down over the saddle). Think they may have cut the padlock off it. I can't think of any way to secure your saddle, sorry! Good luck finding a solution.
 
I keep mine in my car/home. People go off riding at my yard and leave the tack room unlocked. ONly found it like that once before deciding not to take the risk!
