He had never done xc before so i took him down to chilham after having a chat with Ali on saturday and had a play and he was a little star and only stopped a 2 fences which he jumped the 2nd time.

He's never done a ODE so god only knows how he will behave i expect some bucking to start with.

I hope and pray the ground holds as the weather for the rest of the week looks ok so lets hope they dont cancel for any reason.

Will i see anyone else there? Im sooo excited becuase my horse has been out through injury since april and ive only done a 1 lot of sj on the pony since then.

cant wait to get out and have some fun again

I'm supposed to going, along with Prudunce and 2 other friends, but just heard there's a confirmed case of Blue Tongue in Ashford, so presume this will now be cancelled?

Oh no please dont say that! Im so excited about it i think im going to cry if its cancelled!

Had better look and see if anything else is on

I only spoke to tessa at 6 pm this eve but they probably were nto aware of anything when i spoke to them as they were working out dressage times.

I just cant believe it

I am supposed to be going - I can't believe that!! I have been looking forward to this for months!!! Please don't let it be cancelled!!!!

2 of my friends texted tonight when I got in from work.

I'd sent Chilham an email Monday asking what the likelihood was of it being on because I don't know whether to clip or not. The reply was that if there were no more incidences of FMD then it would definately be on.

H&H have just reported that the FMD movement bans have been lifted, and now this.

I'm gutted too as really looking forward to this one and it seems to have been on - off, on - off, for weeks.

I know it's not their fault.

Was going to swap to the Eventers Challenge at Duckhurst if they'll take entries on the day, but will that go ahead too? Who knows?

Duckhurst is going be carnage on sunday thats if it is on. They just dont have the facilites there and i know tons of people who are going to that so i can only imagine what the warm up will look like

I know when the f+m was about there was still other stuff on but im not sure what this damned disease does but it does say it affects sheep which chilham have. The thing is is spread my midges so how on earth can you control that?

Im soo dissaointed i could cry. Its been so long since ive done anything exciting due to my horses injury and now its not going to happen.

I dont think they will have any choice but to cancel

I wonder what else is on apart from duckhurst* goes and looks for copy of pegasus *

I have booked my horse in specifically to be clipped on friday for sunday - and my parents are home from abroad and are so looking forward to seeing me ride - I am gutted. As it is spread by midges I didn't think that it could be spread by horses - I have been looking on the Defra website but can't make out the exact rules for horses!!!! I was going to do Duckhurst and am supposed to be going tomorrow evening to do a few clear rounds - does that mean we won't be able to go??? Ahhh it is so frustrating - seems we are destined not to go to Chilham!!! :-(

taken from the defra website

Horse movements
There are few restrictions affecting people with horses outside the Protection and Surveillance zones. A General Licence is available allowing the movement of horses into or out of a Protection Zone; and from and to premises within a Protection Zone where susceptible animals are kept. Cleansing and disinfection licence conditions apply to any vehicle transporting horses to or from a premises in a Protection Zone

A General Licence is a published document and it does not need to be specifically applied for or sent anywhere - if the conditions of the licence are met, it can be used. Therefore those intending to use the licence must carefully consider its conditions and ensure they are fully met before use.

Certain restrictions are in place for people with horses inside the Protection and Surveillance zones but you may ride into and out of the Protection and Surveillance Zones. The following rules generally apply.

Inside the Surveillance Zone:

You must not transport manure from premises where susceptible animals are kept;
If you take a dog with you, you must keep it under close control
Inside the Protection Zone:

You must not transport manure from premises where susceptible animals are kept;
You must not organise or take part in hunting a drag or other trail, or point-to-point meetings.
You must not hold any gathering of animals (even horses).
If you have a dog with you, you must keep it under close control

Oh yes, I forgot that Blue Tongue is spread by midges? Think they still put up an exclusion zone round the last case though didn't they?

I've not idea whether Chilham will cancel over this. Clare_Cappelli, perhaps you could ask the people running it if you know them?

Only other thing I know which is on (at the moment) is a Hunter Trial in Warlingham.

I agree that Duckhurst will be rammo, so didn't really want to arrive there to enter on the day, only to find they're full, as it's not exactly just down the road from me.

I couldn't find that on the Blue Tongue section - All I found about horses is that there is no restrictions on riding and footpaths as it does not effect horses. I don't really understand if it is transported by midges that fly in the air, how restrictions will prevent it spreading as it doesn't spread from animal to animal?? Or is that is that a really stupid thing to say?!!

I agree ernikins - I don't understand either.

Just on the defra website now.

It seems that Canterbury and Ashford are amongst others in the 'Control Zone' and pretty much the rest of the East, North and South is in the 'Protection Zone'.

I read on another page that there should be no movement of horses to events, but I can't find that bit now. Am just on another page looking to see what the 'Control Zone' means to us horse owners.

I am going but I don't think they will run it.
They apparently worked out the dressage times last time then cancelled it, in fact I'm sure that one of the organisers posted on this site that times would probably be put up early and to look out for them. Instead of times we were told it was cancelled.

Defra website is a bit confusing to me.

Can now find no mention of horse movements but there's lots about farm animals including about pigs being able to be moved both with the Control and Protection zones because they are unaffected by Blue Tongue. So surely this is the same for horses?

Though I'm not sure whether you're expected to get a licence?

Look at us all rooting for what info we can find.

Ive just watched meridian news and they are talking about sheep and didnt mention anything else.

I agree with you in that the movement of horses will not stop this from spreading too but we are talking about the government here so anything is possible i suppose. I cant understand what good it would do not to move horses?

The website is a bit of an "all roads lead to rome " kind of trail and it gives conflicting advice.

Im not expecting it to go ahead tho because they have sheep one of which my friends pony jumped on sunday because it would move out of the way hehehehe.

Grit i belive is involed in the organing of the event. I spoke to Tessa at 6pm and she couldnt have been aware of anything as she said they were just fine tuning times and they would probably go up tonight/ tomo.

I suspect they will consult defra and their farm manager and get advice before making it offical.

I still dont get how it will help stop it speading by midges by stopping the movement or meeting of horses tho.

I wouldn't get my horse within 20 feet of a sheep - he thinks they are very scary!!!

I am preparing myself for it not being on, but I guess we will have to wait until the morning!!! If its not fingers crossed Duckhurst is!! Really want to get out and do something!!!!

Lets all keep our fingers and toes crossed all night!!!

I might try and go combined training if i can fin out which test it is and learn it.

Can we even transport our horses tho out of the control zone to an event in a protection zone ? I might have a stoleaway midgy on board who carries blue tounge and spread it hehehe

Right, everyone get the midge spray out!

Claire, I agree about the Defra website. Everytime you think you've found a title that will take you to the answer you need, you're back to the info you've just looked at!

If horses are included in the non-movement of animals without a licence thingy in the Control Zone, then anyone who keeps their horse in Maidstone, Ashford, Swale etc, can't move it out of the zone. But I think they can within it.

So I'll be OK to go to Duckhust, but not to Chilham, and you'll be OK to go to Chilham, but not to Duckhurst!

I despair!

b*gger,sh*t,pooh, pants!!! Jo,think we are destined never to do this chilham unafil ODE!! Duckhurst isnt a great place at the best of times,i can imagine what sun will be like, mad wizzy ponies cutting u up and spoilt young brats shouting at their parents 2 hurry up or buy them another pony!! arrrrrrrrhhhhhh.
Well Stus away from fri till sun eve in France watching the rugga,so we are DEFO doing something with our nelly's!!! Chilham is very close to the blue tonge out-break,so im convinced its off, just wish they would let us all know!Ive emailed chilham 3 days ago now re pulling out to enter something else, had nothing back!!

Following the outbreak of Bluetongue in Ashford, we have taken advice from the State Veterinary Service, and the event will proceed as planned

La la la - its on, its on!!! Taken from the Chilham website!!!

His first outing for any xc was there last sat when i took him down to see what he would jump so i really really hope they make it a nice inviting course.

I have learnet the dressage test and the showjumping shouldnt be a problem as he fine to sj. Not really sure what will happen xc.

The ground was brill last saturday - i have videos of us jumping the novice fences if anyone wants to see them.

I will be a adult on a 14.3-14.3 ish pony

I'm on a dark bay gelding who hopefully will be clipped and my xc colours are black and white. His name is ChequeMate and I am doing the Novice as well! Hopefully see you there!

Hi everyone,

Been so busy organising Chilham haven't been able to post. After reading the debate thought I should find out the most up-to-date information for you all.

Spoke to Ali, (who was riding my lovely horse at the time). The farm manager is happy and has spoken to DEFRA and they say the event is ok.

If nothing else changes and the weather stays kind - its on.

Just to let you all know, I've done the times and sent them to the person who puts them on the web - they should be up very soon.

Come and say hello, I'm going to be hiding in the lovely new Chilham lorry. I'll try not to bite, but be warned....
