Anyone on here keep their dogs

My dogs are out all year round, have them in the house sometimes if I am in on my own, weekends, stupid weather (they're not in yet) don't bring them in full time until they are elderly.

Big outdoor run with lean-to for the daytime (saving for kennel boxes) and a flagged, roofed run with a police issue kennel box each with vetbed.

Used to crate my female in the house during the day to stop her running her weight off/exercising herself and she loved it.

My Labs outside, all year round. Except when we go on holiday, he goes to my Grandads and has a little holiday too - eating leftovers and laying in front of the fire :)

We don't use a crate. He has a quite a large kennel (which was left by some travellers about 8 years ago) and that's his. The kennel is in another kennel area so theres no draft but I doubt it would bother him. Most night he sleeps under the trees in the garden and doesn't bother with it unless its raining.

I should probably add - he cannot feel the cold at all! He has masses of fluff and I am pretty sure he prefers being cool in winter than in Summer. If I were to bring him in at any point, it would be the Summer rather than winter but he seems happy, he's very healthy for his age so I'm reluctant to change anything until he starts showing his age more.

Labs sleep outside. Garden is totally enclosed so they have free run of it. Kennel to share. They did have access to the garage after an interesting incident involving part of its wall being knocked through but it has since been fixed.

Tinadog occassionally gets inside overnight, she is older and benefits from it sometimes. Midget can't be trusted not to chew inside to pieces!

If there are people at home, dogs are both inside.

I'm always embarassed about my dog when I read that some people keep their dogs outside..My whippet is such a wuss that he needs his own duvet on top of mine and still winges to get under my duvet as well. He wont leave the house in this cold weather unless he has his equafleece on. He so hates the cold and its not as if he is even old.. (3 yrs !!!)

I will tell him to hang his head in shame!

4 of mine are outdoors my akita, deerhound, shaggy ginger x breed and bull x lurcher, mainly cos I have to many dogs to keep indoors:rolleyes: and they are the hardest:D I could never keep the deerhound and akita in they would die of heat exhaustion, even now my akita choses to sleep outside in the snow:confused: all year round they have fab kennels, they get walked/run/play in the fields 2 hours a day and in the summer they have the run of the garden which is pretty big, they ocasioanally come in for a few hours and pant like buggery.

If I even attempted to throw the whippets out there would be hell to pay and blue murder proclaimed:rolleyes:
They do live in the doggy room in the summer which was my garage but now looks like a second kitchen.

At least you lot have whippets as an excuse....
Spaniel who has her own duvet upstairs on the landing for nighttime and two beds downs-one in the kitchen and one in the conservatory. She also has the rug in front of the fire.
I'm not saying the dog is spoiled but us kids never got that kind of treatment when we lived there!

dont!! one of our stud dogs sleeps with me, he lives inside and is spoilt rotten, him and his auntie both sleep under the duvet, and during the day often go back to bed. Mannnie has a window which he uses as a lookout!! and sleeps on when the sun is shining, hes a real brat!! but I do love him , even his little quirks.
Apart from that our dogs are kenneld in heated accommodation and have big runs, but they get out most of the day and follow my partner about then they go enmasse to the forests and hills for a wee jaunt.

Our terriers are inside (wusses) but the rottie is out, she is so furry she can't settle inside for five minutes! She has been toasty warm in her shed (personal matress and one curved round the roof inside like an extra kennel inside). I sometimes bring her in the kitchen in the morning but she wants to go back out five minutes later. Glad im not the only one im sure the neighbours think we are awful having her outside!

My lab is out 24/7 in a biggish kennel, don't like it too big as it won't stay as warm. He's always lived out and is now 6, he's like my cat who also lives outside and neither of them can cope with the heat inside!
The dog's coat is super thick and rough, so I've no worries about him. I did worry with the snow at the beginning of the year but I've realised he is not a human :)

... oh the shame!! We (actually for purposes of this post the dog belongs to my OH!!) have a JR who just believes she is a princess, shivers if she looks out through the window and sees rain, and will hide under pot plants when put out to toilet in such weather!! Wears PJ's at night otherwise she wont stay in her basket and starts muttering at about 4am in the morning to see if she can climb under the duvet!

To be fair, she's fine of occupied outside... and will play in the snow!

Collie lives outside all year (working dog) and just doesn't bother her one bit. In fact, she would be too hot indoors. Old collie moved herself into the back kitchen the winter before she died but up until then she wouldn't set foot in the house even if invited!

Dylan (17 month old Labrador) has a good quality outdoor kennel & large run. He spends his days with me, whether that is outside or inside, then goes into his kennel when I go to bed.

I keep the house warm but not hot during the day, but as soon as OH comes home from work he lights the wood burner (big girl's blouse) & that's where you can find the dog, led so close he almost has his head underneath it! I did worry that he wouldn't cope with the drastic change in temperature when he went to bed, but he seems absolutely fine. When he's outside during the day he is often led in the snow & running through the ditches. Occasionally, when he gets too hot by the stove, he asks to go outside just for a cool off. He could lay in much cooler parts of the house, but no, by the stove is where he needs to be - silly thing. He seems to be extremely good at regulating his internal temperature.

Silly me - I should have specified 'terrier type' young and kennel would be in a warm building. Crate would be in utility room with boiler in and for emergencies and settling in week only. Getting a rescue (again) as it's two years since my Patterdale was PTS due to doggy dementia at 16 yo. Lots to think about but don't fancy leaving a newbie 'outdoors on its own' (basically) in this without consulting everyone.

I can't say for sure that it wouldn't sneak in a bit more often during certain absences, but DEFINITELY no futher than the tiled floor in the kitchen and NO WAY front room or upstairs. Poor neglected thing...

Mine have outside access 24/7 via dog flap into a very secure garden (8 foot stone wall). I don't cage them mainly because I don't need to , don't want to and if I caged the sometimes 12+ dogs I have (my own pack and fosters) I'd have to live in Buckingham Palace. I have a cage for the van and for emergency fosters with unknown temperment (only caged until known to be okay) but otherwise they have lounge, kitchen and garden when I go out.

My 3 Collies are outside, mainly because after a day at work they stink and are covered in sheep s&%t. They have a large kennel with run, my dad and I spent a couple of days in the summer insulating and lining it so you feel it quite cosy when you open the door in the morning,. They all have a box bed each with duvet beds in them and when it's as cold as it has been the last few days they get weatherbeeta dog rugs. They are out in the run till about 10.30pm then shut in till 06.30. They very occasionally come in the house (fireworks night) and love the novelty of being in the house and are all house trained if need to come in due to illness but the kennel is 'their' house and they know it.
