Would love to know more about them...

My OH's Cousin has one and brings her down on the shoot picking up, along with her spangle and pointer!

Wizz, the Chesapeake is just beautiful

We have a lot of boggy/wet ground and reasonably fast flowing rivers on the Estate... Wizz just takes it all in her stride!

I've never met one before but she's totally won me over ... maybe a possible working dog for me to think about in the future.

Do you have one? Any pics?

Thankies

Funnily enough I love them too! Said the same thing to my Dad and he told me they were hard headed, stubborn sods

Although he is a Cocker Addict, so he's bound to be biased!
I think he is going by our IWS, who has taken years to mature and can still be an unreliable wilful sod at times, it seems to be a trait of the heritage breeds!!

I still love them though!

They are amazing dogs! I'd love to get one as our next dog, but M wants to stick to labs

Although I think it would be very difficult to get one over here

I am yet to see one over here!

Hen - i can agree there - Wizz is very hard headed - but at the same time for a dog of 2 years old seems very mature and level-headed
smile.gif
Not like Kensa, she'll be 4 on 31 Jan and she's still very immature and scatty (love her dearly nevertheless!!)

Gina - Looks like you'll have to come over here to get one .. although make sure it's during the months of September - January so you can spend a day out on the shoot whilst you're here

Course you can, although won't Tina dog feel left out? And of course what about the Beastie-Bear?
wink.gif

I'm not 100% certain but i think Jess paid around the 450 mark for Wizz, although she had to travel a 12 hour round trip to get her

TinaDog is an old stubborn girl now and working her is a challenge
wink.gif
Maybe I should just bring her for the trip
grin.gif
You'd be horrified to meet Beastie. The labs are well behaved, Beastie is a law onto herself but does like to think she's a lab
grin.gif

That's not too bad actually, I'd happily pay that for one
smile.gif

Maybe if we bought three in one go (as in us and Hen) we'd get a bit of a discount for Chesapeake bulk buying!!

Beastie would get on well with Kensa ... she thinks she's Lady of the Manor bless her, doesn't DO mud or muddy puddles .. she just doesn't DO getting dirty .. her place is peg dog, sitting and watching gracefully!! *then she woke up* lol

PMSL, bulk buy I like that
grin.gif

Oh bless wee Kensa
laugh.gif
Midget is more often muddy brown that the lovely yellow colour I know her to be

Windsor used to think he was Lord of the Manor. He practically looked down his nose at you

I'll just sit and watch for any stray crumbs from your plate ... i may get lucky or i may starve!

Thinking of it i think our client imported theirs? will ask him, will ask other client too where they got theirs from. I really like them, bit different to a cocker or springer, def not a dog for a non working home though. The only downside to them is that they get a lot of injuries, mainly from barb wire etc, quite keen workers they are!

I'm used to the inquiries side of the working life ... my 2 springers are wild in cover etc! Carry a little emergency med kit in the car for shoot days!

Be intersting to know if they were imported ... thanks

Way before Boston terriers, Stella's breeder used to breed and show Chesapeakes (she went to Westminster Show several times). She switched because she wanted a lot less dog to handle, but by all accounts loved the breed. Apparently they are not just retrievers, but make excellent guard dogs as well. Stella's breeder tested for hips and elbows, but I'm not sure if there are other genetic concerns.
