Just interested to hear about any stories of ex point to pointers? Are they any different to ex racers? how they are in 'civilian' life, do they adapt well? do they cope in a show environment with lots of other horses? do they have a certain kind of mentality? Also what sort of things should I consider health wise with them?

Any advice much appreciated!

One of the horses i ride is an ex pointer. To start off with he was a night mare if taken out on his own, but is getting better now. My friend is just starting to do some prelim dressage with him, although getting him to work in an outline is taking a lot of work, as his neck is on upside down at the min, but it is very slowely getting better. I really dont think you need to be worried any more than with any other hore about there health!!

I found the pointer I had harder to cope with at grass shows than my ex racers. I guess it was pretty similar to when he was out pointing and when asked to stand still he just got more and more stressed. He did improve though and won ridden champion at a big open shoe recently with his new owners!

bit off topic but I've got one looking for a loan home if anyone is interested ? make a good allrounder in the righ hands !

I competed an ex P2P'er and he was a gem.
Infact he was 100% in every way and adapted perfectly

I don't find my p2p'er any more difficult than any other of my horses.. however I would watch their tendons and some may have had falls etc so definatley get their backs checked. Other than that their great fun! But do watch out for 'too fast' time penalties when eventing!

Bob is an ex-pointer, although not exactly a convential one since he is only 15.2hh, but he has never been a problem - I treat him just the same as every other horse I have had and he has never put a foot (or hoof!) wrong

I had an ex ptp. He was a fantastic horse. Extremely forward going but an absolute gentleman. Unfotunately his legs were knackered. He had been abused on the hunting field for one too many seasons. I got him when he was aged 15 and had him pts aged 17 due to a severe injury to his tendon sheath. I like to think he had a lovely semi retirement with me! x
