I have two horses. One older horse with a lovely loaner who rides him most of the time, and a pony that I do local dressage etc with.

Neither of them are going anywhere - but I always find myself looking for a new challenge and enjoy riding new horses / continuing to develop my skills. Additionally, I plan to do BHS stages 1 & 2 this / next year, in prep for doing the PTT certificate so need to be confident riding a range of horses (I want to do this as I run a riding team so would like to be able to do the coaching myself)

I am wondering if I should look for a flexible horse share or just offer to ride in exchange for doing chores? Having 2 of my own means I can't afford to contribute much, if anything, financially.

Does anyone else do something similar?

I own my own mare and foal and then have a riding horse on loan, he is on full loan to me as my old horse died and i wasnt in aposition where i would be able to buy another horse, let alone one of the level of schooling my current hrose is at, and i couldnt stand not having my own horse to ride compete and learn on so i managed to find a really nice horse and the situation suits both me and his owner, she wanted him to go to someone who would still school and compete him where as most other enquiries had been happy hacker types

on top of my own horses i also work on a yard where i help break in and school on horses and also do a little riding for people in my free time, one horse i ride for free because i really enjoy riding him, the owner is happy for me to do what i want with him so long as i will also ride him in the show ring when the time comes and if there is anything she wants to take him to

others i charge for riding,

if you have plenty of time why not offer you help at a local riding school or yard in exchange for training towards your BHS stages, this way you will get to know what the examiners are looking for and also get to ride a larger range of horses, you may also get some help with the PTT which can be a little startling to some people

Try a dealing or a full livery yard they would be gratefull for a free rider and you would also benifit from lots of completly different horses schooling them on for sell ect, you may even get to compete before they sell. :)

Yep, my old riding horse I have on loan is now retired (but staying with me til the end) so last year I bought a pony to have fun on.
