Just being nosey as the what you think of the breed, how you find them as pets? As a child I virtually grew up with one, it was my uncle's dog but I stayed there a lot. The dog was lovely, loyal, happy, friendly dog. While we aren't thinking of getting one at the minute the thought does creep into my mind now and again as we do miss having a dog...

I am interested in hearing too!

TBH i am not a fan. it could well be just the ones i have known though. My brother has one and she is very agressive - his kids arent allow near her after a few hairy incidences. I think every dog though has good and bad so maybe is just her. I think like any hound, they become very attached to the alpha member of the pack - in this case, my sis in law and she doesn't like her giving her childern any attention.

My sis in law has had a few over the years and would never have any other breed - absolutely adores them. Just not the dog for me I am afraid.

My uncle had one when I was a kid, so not exactly yesterday. He was a lovely dog, friendly but not in your face, liked human company, he wasn't aggressive. It would be hard to make a choice of owning a breed based on just one dog, which is why I like to know how others find them.

Very surprised to hear about aggression in elkhounds. Not owned one, but my best friend is one of the top breeders in the country, so spent loads of time around them. In 12 years i have only ever known one dog who showed any aggression. Would totally reccomend as a family pet.
